EPL Table: Latest Week 6 Results, Scores and 2014 Premier League Standings
The latest edition of the Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool kicked of another busy Premier League weekend. The longtime rivals certainly didn't disappoint with an instant classic that wasn't decided until the final moments.
For those two clubs and every other side with championship aspirations this season, the key right now is making sure Chelsea aren't able to extend their lead. The Blues entered the matchday with a three-point edge to quickly establish themselves as the favorites.
Knowing that, let's check out how the table currently shapes up along with the most recent results from around the EPL. Both tables will be updated through the conclusion of play. That information is followed by a recap of the sixth matchday of the campaign.

Week 6 Recap

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard gave his side the lead just after the hour mark with a well-placed free kick to beat Tim Howard. It appeared that would be enough to give the Reds all three points and the coveted derby triumph.
Alas, as they attempted to clear the danger in stoppage time the ball bounced perfectly into the path of Phil Jagielka, who delivered a laser into the top corner to tie the match. Neither side could find the winner in the final few minutes.
Everton manager Roberto Martinez had high praise for the half-volley:
Not only did it earn the Toffees an important road point, but it's the type of moment that can help jump-start their season after a sluggish start.
Chelsea kept their unbeaten run to open the season alive against Aston Villa. Oscar put them on top inside the first 10 minutes and they were pretty much on cruise control from that point forward, controlling the pace of play and limiting the Villans' chances.
Diego Costa and Willian added second-half tallies. Other clubs will hope the early leaders will hit a cold spell eventually. There haven't been any signs of it so far, though.
Manchester City found themselves in quite an entertaining encounter with Hull City. It looked like a blowout in the making at first with Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko finding the net early, but the underdog Tigers deserve credit for fighting back to level the score before halftime.
City came back to life in the second half, though. Dzeko struck again and then Frank Lampard put a cap on the 4-2 win with his fourth goal in the last three matches.

Manchester United were forced to play a man down for the final 30 minutes after Wayne Rooney was shown a straight red for a challenge on Stewart Downing. West Ham United were then able to generate some pressure, but couldn't find the equalizer.
Before Rooney was sent off he did score a milestone goal, as noted by Paul Carr of ESPN:
Crystal Palace used a brief burst in an otherwise tight match to slip by Leicester City. Fraizer Campbell and Mile Jedinak scored three minutes apart early in the second half for the Eagles, which allows them to keep pace in the muddled middle of the table.
Joining them in the win column during Saturday's second wave of matches was Southampton. It was another match that featured plenty of action in the second half as the sides traded goals before Graziano Pelle netted the winner to keep the Saints in second place.
Elsewhere, the Sunderland attack continued to disappoint. The Black Cats were able to generate a fair number of chances against Swansea City, but couldn't find the finishing touch. The good news for them is the Swans couldn't either in a scoreless draw.

Keeping up with the day's theme of terrific entertainment after halftime, the North London derby lived up to its Merseyside counterpart. Tottenham and Arsenal played to a 1-1 draw with Nacer Chadli giving Spurs the lead before Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain equalized with about 15 minutes left.
Squawka Football provided the match stats, which show all of the numbers in Arsenal's favor except the most important one, the final score:
West Bromwich Albion had an easy 4-0 victory over Burnley in the only match on Sunday. This was a key fixture for both sides because a win for either would have moved them up into the aforementioned crowded middle of the table. Even at this stage of the season moving clear of the relegation zone helps take some pressure off.
Finally, the matchday concluded on Monday with Stoke City escaping with a 1-0 win over Newcastle United. While Stoke can feel good about the victory, it is time for concern with Newcastle after going winless in the first six matches. The team has three draws, but it is still not in the position it expected coming into the year.
The club will hope better days are on the horizon in a long season in the EPL.
