Borussia Dortmund playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan stands to be absent from action for up to a month after it was confirmed the midfielder had sustained a foot injury.

Mark Lovell of ESPN FC announced the blow for Jourgen Klopp's side, which was picked up in Mkhitaryan's cameo appearance against Mainz on Saturday, where the Black and Yellows left as 2-0 losers:

Borussia Dortmund followed with additional details on the injury:

"

The Armenia international is expected to be out for four weeks, according to BVB team doctor Markus Braun.

Mkhitaryan sustained the injury in the 90th minute when he came off worse in a block tackle with a Mainz defender when taking a shot from 20 yards that eventually hit the post.

On the way back from the game, the 25-year-old felt a lot of pain in his foot and underwent a scan at the Knappschaft Hospital upon the return to Dortmund where the injury was confirmed.

"

The summer re-signing of Shinji Kagawa looks like smarter business all the more now due to the Armenian's impending absence, with Dortmund in need of every resource available as they look to bounce back from this weekend's defeat.
