5 Biggest Blunders in World Football This Weekend with Tim Howard and More
Welcome back to our latest roundup of all the most horrendous and wayward moments of the weekend in the world of football.
This time we're visiting La Liga—and could have almost stayed there for the duration of this week's lot—and the Premier League but also taking in games from Belgium to China and plenty in between.
Here are our top five: Feel free to leave your own in the comment section below!
Rush Keepers in China
1 of 5Remember when at school you'd play whoever was closest to the goal net in goal at any given minute because nobody really wanted to do the job? And you'd save the ball and then go tearing up the field to leave someone else behind?
That's probably not what happened here, but it sure looks like it.
This is Beijing Guoan's goalkeeper Yang Zhi deciding to dribble out of his area and up the field—where he eventually and needlessly lost the ball after being closed down! Tianjin's players couldn't make the most of the moment of madness though and his error went unpunished.
Feyenoord's Finishing, Especially Colin Kazim-Richards
2 of 5
Feyenoord lost 1-0 at home to Ajax in the Eredivisie on Sunday—somehow.
They dominated the match, hit the woodwork three times and had numerous shots saved, scuffed clear and blocked on the line, but they failed to score from no less than 18 shots in total. The biggest miss undoubtedly came from centre-forward Colin Kazim-Richards, who controlled a high pass into the area, turned inside his marker...and dragged a shot wide from just a few yards out, with the goal almost entirely at his mercy.
Feyenoord have scored just four goals this season so far, despite having an average of more than 18 shots per game—the highest in the entire division.
Howard's Punch Clear...or Not
3 of 5
It wasn't a great day for Tim Howard and Everton, as his side lost 3-2 at home to previously winless Crystal Palace on Sunday.
After giving away a penalty earlier in the game, Howard committed this howler as he completely missed a high cross into the box, allowing the ball to bounce off Frazier Campbell behind him and into the goal to let Palace extend their lead.
We could have gone for Enaut Zubikarai of Real Sociedad here, who did exactly the same thing against Almeria.
Jesus Doesn't Always Save
4 of 5
Jesus Fernandez had a bit of a torrid time for Levante on Sunday night, playing in goal against Barcelona.
Quite aside from the fact he let in five goals, he actually gifted the last one to probably the last person on the planet you ever, ever want to present the ball to in such a fashion—Lionel Messi.
Jesus had the ball in his hands but proceeded to throw it straight at the Barca attacker, who promptly turned his defender and chipped the ball back over Jesus, into the net for 5-0. Nice work. See it here.
Dugout Fracas Sees Head-Butt in Belgium
5 of 5
We finish up over in Belgium, where Lommel's midfielder Yassin Gueroui was sent off before half-time in a 1-1 draw against Mons.
A clash erupted between the two benches after the red card, with coach Didier Beugnies leaning in to head-butt Stijn Vreven in a manner reminiscent of Newcastle boss Alan Pardew last season on an opposition player.
