10 Best Golazos from World Football This Weekend

Ryan BaileySep 14, 2014

At the start of the weekend, Romelu Lukaku had scored 32 Premier League goals but none for a club that actually owned him. That statistic changed on Saturday as the Belgian struck a beauty for Everton against West Bromwich Albion, one of his former loan sides.

This weekend's golazo roundup also includes a few other fantastic strikes from the Premier League and efforts from Russia, France, Belgium and Italy.

Romelu Lukaku (Everton) vs. West Bromwich Albion

1 of 10

Lukaku needed only 100 seconds to put Everton ahead at the Hawthorns, capitalising on a suicidal clearance by Jonas Olsson to curl a beautiful right-footed shot past Ben Foster. Out of respect for the club whom he once represented on loan, the Belgian refused to celebrate his excellent strike.

Adam Johnson (Sunderland) vs. Tottenham

2 of 10

Sunderland twice came from behind to earn a draw with Tottenham at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

Nacer Chadli broke the deadlock after just two minutes, but Adam Johnson responded two minutes later with a stunning solo golazo.

The winger picked up the ball on the left and dribbled past several defenders before beating Hugo Lloris with a right-footed shot.

Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal) vs. Manchester City

3 of 10

Arsenal do not have the greatest record against top-four teams in recent seasons, but they came out swinging against Manchester City on Saturday, only being denied three points by a late Martin Demichelis equaliser.

In the 74th minute, an in-form Jack Wilshere put a high looping header into the box, which Alexis Sanchez connected with to score a brilliant volley. Joe Hart might have dealt with it better, but nothing can be taken away from the Chilean's technique.

Morgan Schneiderlin (Southampton) vs. Newcastle United

4 of 10

In the 90th minute of Newcastle United's visit to Southampton, Morgan Schneiderlin might have put the final nail in the coffin of Alan Pardew's managerial career on Tyneside.

Newcastle hardly competed in their 4-0 loss to the Saints, a performance that was capped by Schneiderlin's lovely finish into the top-right corner (see the goal at the 1:20 mark of this clip).

The Frenchman's goal was made even better by the fact that it was preceded by 38 Southampton passes, as per Paul Doyle of The Guardian

Mathieu Valbuena (Dynamo Moscow) vs. Zenit St. Petersburg

5 of 10

Dynamo Moscow may have been defeated 3-2 by Russian Premier League rivals Zenit St. Petersburg on Saturday, but at least they opened the scoring in a classy manner.

In the 18th minute, new signing Mathieu Valbuena beat Zenit keeper Yuri Lodigin with a very cheeky lob.

Idriss Saadi (Clermont Foot) vs. Le Havre

6 of 10

French Ligue 2 strugglers Clermont Foot moved out of the relegation zone on Friday night with a 1-0 win over Paul Pogba's former side, Le Havre.

The winner came in the 64th minute when Algerian striker Idriss Saadi converted an audacious overhead kick. It was the 22-year-old's first goal for the club.

Amido Balde (Waasland-Beveren) vs. Zulte Waregem

7 of 10

Waasland-Beveren earned a 4-1 win at troubled Zulte Waregem on Saturday morning, thanks in part to the incredible efforts of Portuguese striker Amido Balde.

In the 49th minute, the 23-year-old—who's on loan from Celtic—scored Beveren's second and his first of the season with a stunning 40-yard half-volley that the Waregem keeper had no chance of saving.

Grant Leadbitter (Middlesbrough) vs. Huddersfield

8 of 10

Middlesbrough earned a 2-1 victory at Huddersfield on Saturday thanks to a brace from midfielder Grant Leadbitter.

His first was a spectacular 35-yard free-kick that he appeared to hit with the outside of his foot into the top-right corner.

The reverse angle shows the incredible swerve on the ball, leading many to compare it to Roberto Carlos' famous effort against France

Conor Hourihane (Barnsley) vs. MK Dons

9 of 10

Barnsley were on the losing end of an eight-goal thriller on Sunday, succumbing 5-3 to MK Dons. The Tykes may not have three points to show for the League One tie, but they can boast two of the best goals of the weekend—both scored by Conor Hourihane.

In footage unearthed by our friends at 101 Great Goals, we see that Barnsley were 5-0 up when the 23-year-old struck a brilliant consolation from outside the area. Five minutes later, he bagged another Bobby Dazzler from distance.

Jeremy Menez (AC Milan) vs. Parma

10 of 10

Milan's visit to Parma seemed to have have absolutely everything: nine goals, two red cards, a dodgy own goal and a brilliant backheel golazo.

New signing Jeremy Menez scored his first goal of the day from the penalty spot before putting away the Rossoneri's fifth of the game with the cheekiest of backheels.

The French winger poached the ball on the edge of the six-yard box after some dreadful defending, before poking the ball past the goalkeeper to set himself up for his stylish finish.

With a 5-4 victory, Milan didn't miss Fernando Torres, whose debut has been delayed by injury.
