ESPN 'College GameDay' Headed to Tallahassee for Clemson vs. FSU in Week 4

ESPN's College GameDay is heading to the home of the reigning national champions in Week 4 to see Florida State take on conference rival Clemson in one of the premier ACC contests of the 2014 season.

This particular matchup is a popular one with the pregame show, as Chris Fowler, Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit and Desmond Howard were in Death Valley last fall to watch the Seminoles take on the Tigers in what was supposed to be the biggest test of the season for Jimbo Fisher's club. The exam didn't last long, as quarterback Jameis Winston and company dominated from the get-go, routing Dabo Swinney's team, 51-14.

Clemson opened up the 2014 season in disappointing fashion, falling at Georgia 45-21. The Tigers rebounded with a 73-7 victory over South Carolina State of the FCS, and they'll have the benefit of an extra week off to prepare for the No. 1 team in the nation.

Unfortunately for the Tigers, Florida State will have Week 3 off as well after opening the season with a 37-31 victory over Oklahoma State and following it up with a ho-hum 37-12 win against Citadel. The latter contest turned ugly following the game when Bulldogs offensive lineman Victor Hill admitted in an online post that he and the rest of his line were targeting the knees of the 'Noles defensemen.

"Me and my offensive line brothers preached to each other all week that we would be going for knees from the first play to the last play with the A-backs included," Hill wrote, via ESPN.com. "We saw it as if they [won't] respect us for blocking them then we'll make them respect us for cutting them!"

Hill was later suspended, and it's hard to imagine the Seminoles will want to schedule a rematch anytime soon.

Winston's bid for a repeat Heisman is off to an underwhelming start with two interceptions and just 11 rushing yards although a date with the Tigers should give him a chance to reassert himself to the forefront of the trophy discussion.

He does have over 600 yards passing, but to win the sport's most prestigious award, it's going to take an even greater effort than the one he gave in 2013, especially with Georgia's Todd Gurley and Oregon's Marcus Mariota off to such tremendous starts.

For Clemson, it will be a matter of not wilting when the game reaches the third and fourth quarters. After tying Georgia 21-21, the Bulldogs soared past the Tigers behind the ever-churning legs of the superhuman Gurley.

If this contest remains close in the second half, can Clemson learn from its Week 1 mistakes?

One position battle the nation has its eyes locked in on is quarterback, where dual-threat freshman Deshaun Watson looks to push senior Cole Stoudt for the starting spot. Both have plenty of talent, but Watson, a former 4-star recruit sought after by Alabama, Auburn and even Florida State, is the kind of player who can take the Tigers to the top.

Stoudt has taken the majority of snaps thus far for the Tigers, and his leadership will be critical to keeping the offense focused in Doak Campbell Stadium. But if things get dicey in the first half, we may see Swinney let go of Watson's reigns and see if the freshman can make some magic happen.

The stakes could not be any higher in the ACC showdown, as the conference's weakened perception means that Florida State likely cannot afford a loss if it wants to be in position to reach the College Football Playoff.

Tests against Notre Dame, Louisville and Florida loom, but this is the first opportunity for the 'Noles to identify themselves as serious contenders to win a second straight national championship.

The contest will take place at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
