Javier Hernandez Weighs in on Cristiano Ronaldo vs. Lionel Messi Debate

Tom SunderlandSep 10, 2014

Real Madrid striker Javier Hernandez hasn't taken long to settle in at the Bernabeu, and after moving from Manchester United on loan, he says it's clear Cristiano Ronaldo is a superior talent to Lionel Messi.

It's been little more than a week since a deadline-day switch took Hernandez to the Spanish capital, but that would appear to have been enough as he already weighed in on the Ronaldo vs. Messi debate on the Spanish television programme El Chiringuito (h/t Goal.com):

"

Without a doubt, Ronaldo is the best. In the little time I have been here, I have seen why he is the best in the world. It is not only what he does in games so well but on a day-to-day basis. For me, Cristiano is the best. Messi is there too; after Cristiano, there is the Argentine.

My idol is Ronaldo Nazario de Lima, 'The Phenomen'. I've never had the chance to meet him, so hopefully one day I can get a picture with him!

Hernandez arrived at Old Trafford in 2010, a year after Ronaldo completed his £80 million move to Madrid, preventing the Mexican international from lining up alongside the forward as a Red Devil.

However, the fates have brought "Chicharito" to the Bernabeu on temporary terms, allowing him to form a more precise opinion of who deserves the title of world's finest.

The striker is yet to make his debut under Carlo Ancelotti since moving to the Spanish giants, but he'll have plenty of time to familiarise himself with the squad and, more specifically, Ronaldo.

Los Blancos' star won the 2013-14 Best Player in Europe award last month as recognition for his recent contributions to the game, which included a goalscoring performance in Real's 4-1 Champions League final triumph over rivals Atletico.

It's that kind of success Hernandez will be hoping to replicate this season, having spent the majority of the last two seasons on United's bench.

Sky Sports News show some of the logic behind Hernandez's opinion, comparing Ronaldo's 2013-14 campaign alongside those of Gareth Bale and Messi:

It's been a debate that's raged for some years now and will undoubtedly continue for the seasons to come, with Ronaldo and Messi consistently figuring as world beaters on the individual scale.

Moving to Real has opened Hernandez's eyes, it seems, and he is favourable toward the powers he'll be hoping to emphasise even further as the campaign progresses.
