Twitter Reacts to Danny Welbeck's Performance from Switzerland vs. England
England claimed a 2-0 victory over Switzerland in their opening Euro 2016 qualifying match in Basel on Monday night.
Roy Hodgson's side came into the game under some pressure having underwhelmed in a recent friendly victory over Norway and performed poorly as they were knocked out at the World Cup in the group stages.
Fabian Delph was the most surprising starter for the Three Lions, but it was an improved performance overall and Danny Welbeck was the star as he scored a brace to seal the win.

However, the new Arsenal man did not have the best time in the first half, spurning a fine opportunity after half an hour to put Wayne Rooney or Raheem Sterling in on goal, to the frustration of CNN's James Masters and the Huffington Post's Samuel Luckhurst:
He also did not look to have his finishing boots on as he failed to find the target in the opening period.
In the second half, England were given a little more space behind the Swiss defence as the hosts moved forward to try to claim the winning goal.
And it proved to be a fine outlet for England as Welbeck bagged the opening goal just before the hour after fine work from Rooney and Sterling, per the Daily Mirror's John Cross:
As WhoScored.com reports, it was the former Manchester United player's first goal in an England shirt for a year:
Bleacher Report UK pointed out the significance of Welbeck's celebration, the 23-year-old heading over to his new Gunners teammates on the touchline:
After the opening goal, which saw England on the way to a morale-lifting away win against a decent team, Hodgson's men retreated somewhat but continued to make chances.
While the Swiss threatened sporadically, England looked well set to take the win and Welbeck confirmed the result with his second, again on the counter-attack, in stoppage time, per Henry Winter of The Telegraph:
It was a fine performance for Welbeck and England overall, with Michael Owen highlighting that the striker proved some of his critics wrong in Switzerland:
The BBC's Francis Keogh provided a stat that will surely make for bad reading for fans of United after Welbeck's recent departure:
Certainly all involved at Arsenal will have been delighted to see Welbeck bag a double and hope that he continues his goalscoring when the Premier League returns.
Overall it was a much-improved performance for England and Welbeck and one that could potentially signal better things to come after a poor summer.
