Kompany's Availability for Roma Showdown in Doubt

City's colossus will play no part in their next two Premier League games, and is a major doubt for their must-win Champions League tie in Rome, according to quotes from Manuel Pellegrini reported by the Daily Mirror's David McDonnell:
"Vincent Kompany is not able to play against Sunderland or against Everton, that’s sure. We’ll see if he arrives against Roma. That will depend on the opinion of the doctor.
It’s very difficult, because I cannot say without the opinion of the doctor how his injury will improve in the next days. It depends what degree of muscle injury he has. It’s very difficult to know in this moment if he can play against Rome.
He has an injury in his hamstring. We will see how long it will be. We need to wait until then.

Kompany Limps Off vs. Southampton
Sunday, Nov. 30
Manchester City received some bad news Sunday as captain and star defender Vincent Kompany suffered a hamstring injury against Southampton, as reported by the Daily Telegraph's Henry Winters:
The injury was severe enough for Kompany to leave the pitch prematurely, despite the fact the Citizens were already playing with 10 men following Eliaquim Mangala's red card.
The Belgian international has been plagued by nagging injury problems throughout his career, and the Citizens no doubt hoped the 2014-15 season would be different. According to Physioroom.com, the centre-back had to be held out of matches on six separate occasions in 2013-14, with a groin injury troubling the defender the most.

Kompany is City's rock at the heart of their defence, and while the depth behind him is solid, none of the available options can offer the same blend of experience, leadership, vision and raw athleticism.
The Citizens' captain isn't afraid to play through the pain, as evidenced by his performance in Belgium's World Cup qualifier against Serbia. He finished the match with a broken nose, fractured eye socket and a concussion, as reported by The New York Times' Jere Longman.
Paddy Power shared this image after that match, proof that any injury has to be serious for Kompany to miss time on the pitch:
Longman profiled his injury history, and per Belgian newspaper Le Soir, it isn't pretty:
"[...] Yet Kompany has also been frequently unavailable because of injury. According to Le Soir, a French-language Belgian newspaper, he has missed 700 days to injury during his 11-year professional career with his club and national teams," Longman said.
Kompany could now add to his lengthy injury history, and fans will have to hope doctors will have some good news in store when the extent of the injury becomes clear. Manager Manuel Pellegrini refused to rule out cramps during his post-match press conference, and if that's the case, Kompany should be available for selection for Wednesday's fixture against Sunderland.
The Citizens can't afford to drop any points at this stage of the season, and with their top defender now potentially sidelined, even more pressure will be on the group of attackers to deliver plenty of goals.
