Why Rafael Nadal Will Never Win the US Open
How could I possibly say that Nadal will never win the US Open?
Well, for starters, he didn't win the French Open for a fifth straight year, and withdrew from Wimbledon because of tendonitis in his knees. The only tournament he has never won is the US Open, and he has no more than a slim chance of winning it this year.
Andy Murray, Roger Federer, and countless others are finally finding Nadal's weaknesses: injuries, along with one devastating loss, in Madrid against Roger Federer. During the clay-court season, I knew that a breakdown was soon to come. He had played way too much tennis during that period.
Though I thought Nadal would win the French, I did not think he would defend his Wimbledon title. After Robin Soderling beat him in the fourth round, I said Roger would tie Samprass' record there and beat it at either Wimbedon or the US.
The US moves a lot faster than the French. This year, Andy Murray is a bigger threat to Roger than Rafa is. Nadal has only got past the quarterfinals once, and Murray beat him in the semis in four sets.
Nadal will soon lose the number one ranking, and might not win another major his whole life. His tennis career is soon over because of his brutal style of play. I, myself, am a Nadal fan, but truly believe that a new crop of young players is on their way. Andy Murray, Sam Querrey, Phillip Kohlschreiber, and Victor Troicki to name a few.
Don't expect to see Rafa on top of the tennis world any time soon.
After Wimbledon 2008, people thought it was the beginning of the end for Federer. But, he won two of the next three Grand Slam titles, including his first ever French Open win.
I am sorry to say it, but this is the beginning of the end for Nadal, and just the end of the beginning for Andy Murray.
