Andy Roddick Moves To Second Round at Wimbledon
The Lacoste poster child, Andy Roddick, moved into the second round today after a great match with the frenchman Jeremy Chardy. It was a tough four setter for the American, but the better player prevailed in the end.
It started off with Roddick booming serves left and right, jumping to a quick lead. The big man faltered only a couple of times, but ended up taking the first set 6-3.
The second set would not come nearly as easy, though. Roddick was broken a couple of times by Chardy, taking the thrilling set in a tie-breaker 7-3.
With a two set lead, Roddick looked to close out the match in three sets. Chardy would not have it this way, however. Battling back and holding a few fantastic service games, the third set belonged to the frenchman's.
Now that Roddick had been snapped back into reality, he was on a mission to end the match then and there. Only being broken once, Roddick stormed through the fourth set, clinching the victory.
In a post match interview, Roddick was asked if he was comfortable "going quietly about [his] business" (Wimbledon Interviewer, 2009). Roddick replied by saying that he just wanted to "play good tennis" (Andy Roddick, 2009).
Andy will probably stay true to his word. Up until about the quarterfinals, that is. Being my favorite player, I truly believe that he can knock Roger Federer off of his high-horse.
I mean, come on, Federer can't just be allowed to coast through the draw with that cunning smile and large wife at his side.
Someone has to get their hands dirty and crush him, like Nadal used to.
If Roddick can play to the level that I have seen him, Roddick can beat Federer no doubt.
