Premier League Week 34 Standout Stats: Merseyside Duo, Palace Continue to Roll
Week 34 in the English Premier League started with a whimper but went out with a bang, as Manchester City and Liverpool delivered a five-goal thriller at Anfield.
On Saturday, all but one match finished in a 1-0 result. The one game that didn't was the one between West Bromwich Albion and Tottenham that ended 3-3 because of a dramatic Spurs comeback.
While the level of excitement across the league wasn't as high as usual, Week 34 still handed us some spectacular standout stats.
Liverpool Continues to Win and Score
With their win over Manchester City on Sunday, Liverpool's winning streak in league play was extended to 10 games.
That matches the longest streak of its kind since 2005:
During the match, Liverpool received two first-half goals from Raheem Sterling and Martin Skrtel.
Those two strikes upped the club's number of first-half goals to 52, which is 18 better than second-place Manchester City:
Martin Skrtel Scores When He Wants
Skrtel continued his career year on the offensive end with his 26th-minute goal that flew past Joe Hart and into the back of the net.
With the goal, the powerful center-back became the first player at his position to score that many goals in a season for Liverpool since Emlyn Hughes during the 1972-73 campaign:
Crystal Palace Continues to Blaze Through Opposition
Crystal Palace's path to survival became clearer on Saturday after a 1-0 win over Aston Villa at Selhurst Park.
The win was the third consecutive league victory for the Eagles, who last achieved that feat in 1994:
The Blue Half of Merseyside Has Reason to Celebrate Too
With rival Liverpool stealing all the headlines, Everton have quietly put together a tremendous season under Roberto Martinez.
The Toffees defeated Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday to move into fourth place with 66 points.
Everton's current point total is now their all-time high as the club had never reached above 65 points in a single Premier League season before:
The win also marked the 100th league clean sheet for Tim Howard, who became the fourth Everton keeper to achieve such a feat.
Sunderland's Misery Continues
The lone goal at the Stadium of Light was an own goal by Wes Brown, which means the Black Cats have now conceded six own goals this season:
The Black Cats have also let in 15 own goals in the last five years, a number that is second to Fulham's 17 during that span:
Rare Massive Comeback for Spurs
For only the second time in their league history, Tottenham came back from down three goals to earn a result.
Thanks to a Jonas Olsson own goal and strikes by Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen, Spurs gained a valuable point to keep their slim Champions League hopes alive.
