6 Best January Transfer Window Signings in Serie A
The January transfer window has continually grown in importance over the years as teams look to make either wholesale or minor changes once they've had a few months to assess their own strengths and weaknesses.
The Serie A is no different, as the competitiveness across the board has seen plenty of sides look to bolster their squad during the winter months.
Now that we've had a few months to analyze the signings, let's take a look at the six which have been the best ones:
Adel Taarabt: Fulham to Milan
1 of 6
The trickster was a low-cost risk for Milan who wouldn't cause too much uproar if he failed and would be a welcome addition if he were to rekindle his form from three years ago with Queens Park Rangers.
Taarabt went from the end of Fulham's bench last season to starting for Milan in the Champions League.
Since joining, he has shown an almost superhuman ability to take on his defender and has proved his critics wrong by tracking back and playing for the team rather than being individualistic.
Taarabt has also become a fan favorite, as he's often met by a full round of applause from the San Siro when he goes on a mazy run.
Radja Nainggolan: Cagliari to Roma
2 of 6
The bullish Nainggolan has shades of Gennaro Gattuso with his grit and determination but far better feet when he's in possession.
Roma pulled the trigger on the disgruntled ex-Cagliari midfielder, who was tired of the problems swirling around the Sardinian outfit.
He's now even more valuable to the Giallorossi as Kevin Strootman nurses a serious injury that will keep him out of the Roma squad as well as the World Cup.
Jorginho: Hellas Verona to Napoli
3 of 6
Napoli needed an upgrade in front of the defense and found that person in the shape of Jorginho, the young, deep-lying playmaker from Hellas Verona who has instantly integrated himself with the Partenopei.
Jorginho has plenty of technique and is calm in distribution, but he also brings an excellent work-rate and has been affectionately received by his fans.
Expect Jorginho to lead Napoli's midfield for a long time to come as the club enters one of the most successful periods in their history under their charismatic owner Aurelio De Laurentiis.
Adil Rami: Valencia to Milan
4 of 6
With Milan's defense in taters, a spot in the center was ripe for the taking.
Adil Rami came in with a bit of baggage from his previous adventure in Spain, but has come in right away and taken the starting role in Milan's XI.
Rami is a hulking center-back who is also calm in possession and helps Milan in their most glaring weakness—aerial defending.
Expect the Rossoneri to buy out his contract at the end of his season-long loan from Valencia.
Faouzi Ghoulam: Saint-Etienne to Napoli
5 of 6
Napoli's porous defense has been their biggest flaw this season, so it's no surprise Aurelio De Laurentiis decided to bring in several defenders during the January transfer window.
The most surprising one has been the Algerian left-back Faouzi Ghoulam, who has slotted in for Napoli right away, defending with poise and attacking comfortably.
Ghoulam's inclusion in the team has had an immediate impact, as he showed just how valuable he was in Napoli's win against Juventus last week.
Hernanes: Lazio to Inter
6 of 6
Even though it'll take some time for Hernanes to get fully acquainted with the Nerazzurri, fans have seen flashes of his brilliance since he joined over from Lazio.
Hernanes gives Inter another dimension as he can link midfield with attack to perfection, and can break down the best of defenses with his vision and long-range shooting ability.
The Nerazzurri are still in a rebuilding mode, so they'll need both Hernanes and Fredy Guarin to link up plenty and create a formidable partnership in the middle of the park.
