EPL: Where's the Title Really Going?

Salaar ShamsiApr 26, 2008

Chelsea's victory over Manchester United has kept the Premier League alive. I decided the only way to know what was going to happen is to look at the fixtures that the teams have left.

Manchester United vs. West Ham United (Old Trafford)

The Hammers have won all three of the previous meetings between the two sides. Man United will be looking for revenge for the 2-1 defeat at Upton Park earlier in the season. West Ham fought off relegation last season with a win at Old Trafford.

However, Carlos Tevez will be wearing a red shirt this time. Man United's morale would depend on the result of their Champions League clash with Barcelona. Man United meet the Hammers on May 3.

Newcastle United vs. Chelsea (St. James Park)

Chelsea play Newcastle on Monday, May 5. The Magpies are rejuvenated under Kevin Keegan, winning four of their last five games up to the game against West Ham.

It's not the best time to face Newcastle; certainly, not when you are fighting for the title, certainly not on a Monday, and certainly not at St. James Park. Chelsea's morale will depend the result of their game against Liverpool in the Champions League.

Wigan Athletic vs. Manchester United (JJB Stadium)

The Latics recently held Chelsea to a 1-1 draw. Chelsea will be hoping United meet a similar fate against Wigan.

United's game against Wigan will be on the final day of the season, and if the race goes to the final day, it may well be the title decider. United must face Wigan away on May 11.

Chelsea vs. Bolton Wanderers (Stamford Bridge)

Unlike Manchester United, Chelsea have their final game on home turf. That is an advantage for Avram Grant's side, who appear to be unbeatable at home.

Chelsea vs. Bolton will begin at the same time as Wigan vs Man United. That tells us that if the race does go to the final day, it promises to be a dramatic day regardless of the result.

The Premier League race depends on these matches. Personally, I think United will be strong enough to be crowned Champions again. I think I have started the debate here.
