Top 25 Predictions: Beware the Hokies, Horned Frogs
It's only Week Two, but the college football season is already rolling. Here's a look at the weekend ahead for the Top 25...
#2 LSU vs. #9 Virginia Tech
Everyone's talking about this one before the teams even hit the field—and who can blame them?
The winner here will be in the early-season driver's seat, while the loser will be eating dust and wondering what happened.
Many believe the Tigers will win this one big—but it won't be because of Matt Flynn. I smell an upset coming.
Final Score: Virginia Tech 34, LSU 26
#3 West Virginia vs. Marshall
The dynamic duo of Patrick White and Steve Slaton look to continue their dominance against the Thundering Herd. Marshall will put up a fight...in the first quarter. After that, this one gets embarrassing.
Final Score: West Virginia 63, Marshall 10
#4 Wisconsin vs. UNLV
The Badgers earned their ranking by beating up Washington State last week. Tyler Donovan and P.J. Hill will deliver their customary one-two punch against the Rebels. Expect fireworks in a one-sided game—when it’s over, the Rebels will be Runnin’ away from the mighty Big Ten.
Final Score: Wisconsin 42, UNLV 7
#5 Texas vs. #21 TCU
The Horns squeaked by Arkansas State last weekend—but they'll have to find that elusive “A” game if they expect to pick up a victory this weekend.
The challenger: the TCU Horned Frogs.
Their qualifications: five straight victories over Big 12 teams, and nine wins in 10 games against BCS Conferences.
The Horns are good, but the Frogs are better. If there's going to be an upset this weekend, this is it.
Final Score: TCU 34, Texas 24
#6 Florida vs. Troy
One more warm-up for Florida before Tennessee comes to town.
Tim Tebow will man the controls of Gator Air while the halfbacks ground and pound Troy into submission. Good workout. Good prep game. Good victory.
Florida will be ready for the Volunteers—you can take that to the bank.
Final Score: Florida 63, Troy 3
#7 Oklahoma vs. Miami
The Sooners left North Texas black and blue. Now they have an ACC powerhouse to deal with.
Sam Bradford and D-Marc had a field day last week against the Mean Green, but can they do it again against the Hurricanes?
New Canes coach Randy Shannon has Miami thinking about the ACC crown instead of another cheesy bowl game. Expect a shootout in the first big test for both teams.
Final Score: Oklahoma 45, Miami 38
#8 Cal vs. Colorado State
Cal was 2-3 on the road last season, and will look to improve on that record starting with a trip to Fort Collins.
With all apologies to the CSU faithful, I don’t see Caleb Hanie getting the Rams their first win of the season against a more focused Golden Bears team. Expect Nate Longshore to dispatch CSU by halftime.
Final Score: Cal 49, CSU 10
#10 Ohio State vs. Akron
No Troy Smith.
No Ted Ginn, Jr.
No Problem.
The Buckeyes defense is still dangerous, and Todd Boeckman looks like the perfect fit under center. Ohio State is one of three teams eyeing the vacated Big Ten throne (thanks, Michigan). And with the Zips on their plate for Saturday, they're aleady off to a good start.
Final Score: Ohio State 45, Akron 3
#11 Georgia vs. South Carolina
Final Score: UGA 26, USC 13
#14 Penn State vs. Notre Dame
Final Score: PSU 31, ND 10
#15 Nebraska vs. Wake Forest
Final Score: Neb 24, Wake 21
#16 UCLA vs. BYU
Final Score: UCLA 27, BYU 21 OT
#17 Auburn vs. South Florida
Final Score: Auburn 26, S Fla 20
#18 Hawaii vs. Louisiana Tech
Final Score: Hawaii 63, LaTech 10
#20 Georgia Tech vs. Samford
Final Score: Ga Tech 52, Samford 7
#22 Tennessee vs. Southern Miss
Final Score: Tenn 38, USM 24
#23 Boise State vs. Washington
Final Score: BSU 48, Was 20
#24 Michigan vs. Oregon
Final Score: Oregon 41, Michigan 35
#25 Texas A&M vs. Fresno State
Final Score: Texas A&M 37, FSU 10
Enjoy the Party. Be Safe. See ya Sunday for the official return of the NFL.
