The Champions League group stage is approaching its climax, with just one round of fixtures remaining.

Matchday 5 saw the list of teams confirmed for a place in the round of 16 grow to eight, with a further eight slots still up for grabs.

First, here’s a look at the week's results:

Eye-catching results

Chelsea's second loss against Basel and Ajax's impressive 10-man victory over Barcelona were two of the more surprising results of the week, while Manchester United's 5-0 rout over Bayer Leverkusen in Germany was something of a statement as they advanced to the knockout rounds.

Bayern Munich's record 10 consecutive wins in the competition saw them maintain their status as tournament favourites, while an overdue three points for Juventus revived their hopes of qualification.

The following teams have now qualified for the next stage of the competition:

Manchester UnitedGroup A
Real Madrid (group winners)Group B
PSG (group winners)Group C
Bayern MunichGroup D
Manchester CityGroup D
ChelseaGroup E
Atletico Madrid (group winners)Group G
BarcelonaGroup H

Issues still to be resolved

In Group A, Shakhtar Donetsk lead Bayer Leverkusen by a point going into the final round of fixtures. With the sides not facing each other, the Ukrainians must equal or better their rivals' result. Shakhtar can also still pip United for top spot.

Juventus' win over Copenhagen puts them back in the driver's seat in Group B. They must now win or draw against Galatasaray to ensure qualification. Lose, and the Turkish side will progress.

Group C is another shootout between Olympiacos and Benfica, again without either side facing each other. The Portuguese squad need to better the Greek outfit's result to advance.

Group D is entirely wrapped up, with Manchester City and Bayern Munich playing to determine who tops the table.

Basel and Schalke lock horns for the right to emerge from Group E, with the Germans needing a win. Either side can still go through as group winners ahead of a stuttering Chelsea.

Group F is the only section without a qualified team at this stage. As long as Arsenal avoid a heavy defeat away in Napoli, they will progress. Borussia Dortmund will advance with a win in Marseille.

Zenit St. Petersburg and Porto are fighting for the remaining qualification spot in Group G. The Portuguese side must better the Russians' result in their final fixture to qualify.

Finally, Ajax can still emerge from Group H with a win away at AC Milan. Any other result and the Italians will qualify along with Barcelona.

The final round of fixtures is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 10 and Wednesday, Dec. 11.
