Players Who Will Make Headlines at the Weekend
Aaron Ramsey, Arsenal
Aaron Ramsey's meteoric rise to becoming a key player couldn't have been predicted at the start of the season.
While the Welshman showed signs of improving toward the tail end of last year, his creative output and run of goals is as surprising as it is emphatic. The 22-year-old has scored six in 12 Premier League appearances this campaign and will be extra motivated to perform well against Cardiff.
Whether Ramsey performs excellently or terribly against his old club, you can bet he'll be in the headlines.
An intimidating Cardiff City stadium—which has already claimed the scalp of Manchester City and forced United into a draw this season—will produce a cauldron of noise to distract their former hero.
Arsenal continue to rumble on with decent results in the domestic division—bar the 1-0 loss to United—suggesting Arsene Wenger's men finally have the grit and resiliency to secure the Premier League title.
A win in Wales, matched alongside a great performance from Ramsey, will only galvanise that claim.
Loic Remy, Newcastle United
Alan Pardew's Newcastle career has been defined by prolific strikers.
First there was Demba Ba, the man who has never looked the same since being shipped to Chelsea. Then there was Papiss Cisse, the man who has never replicated the amazing 2012 brace he scored against Chelsea. Now there's Loic Remy, the man who thrust Newcastle up the table with goals against Chelsea and Tottenham.
Remy has netted eight goals in 10 appearances this campaign, three in his last three, as reported by WhoScored.com. His speed, movement and lethal finishing ability have significantly aided a side that looked more likely to battle relegation than compete for a Europa League spot just a few weeks ago.
West Brom visit St. James' Park, knowing the Magpies currently have their home fans firmly on their side.
Should Pardew's team get off to a quick start—as they did with Remy's second-minute goal in the 2-1 win over Norwich—you can bet the French forward will frequent the headlines once more.
Andros Townsend, Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham's abysmal 6-0 defeat to Manchester City saw Andre Villas-Boas give Andros Townsend a rest after a busy few weeks for the newly uncovered England star.
Remarkably, a noticeable lack of speed, invention and cutting edge had been missing from the team's play.
While this has largely been the case throughout the season, Townsend is the type of player who can turn the North London side's fortunes around against Manchester United.
David Moyes' team is slow at the back and recently creaked to a 2-2 draw with Cardiff, suggesting their White Hart Lane showdown will be an antsy affair between two less than confident teams.
Townsend needs to receive plenty of the ball to make his long-shooting prowess count, but he can provide the spark to compound Moyes' side to further misery and lift Spurs away from falling into the bottom half of the table.
