Top Storyline: Can Aston Villa Get Going Offensively?
While Aston Villa struggled in general a year ago, the attack was still around the middle of the pack thanks to the excellent play of Christian Benteke. Unfortunately, he has not been as impressive this season with only four goals to this point.
Meanwhile, he is getting very little help from the rest of the roster. Gabriel Agbonlahor is among the most disappointing players so far with no goals in eight starts after scoring nine times last season.
The midfield has generally struggled to hold on to possession during matches, which limits opportunities for the forwards. This has led to long scoring droughts, which lasted more than four matches. Even with two late goals against Cardiff, it is hard to trust this offense.
Aston Villa need to figure out a way to get opportunities and finish in the final third, otherwise they will keep losing.
Prediction: West Brom 1, Aston Villa 0
With only one legitimate scoring option, Aston Villa will be very easy to defend, especially for a club that has performed well defensively.
Jonas Olsson and Gareth McAuley have been as solid as they come in the middle of the West Brom defense, and they do not make many mistakes. This will lead to even fewer opportunities to score for the road team.
West Brom have a few scoring options up front, and only one of them will probably have to come through with a goal to get three points toward the league standings on Monday.
