Half-time analysis

Lampard slammed in a 21st-minute penalty to give Chelsea a 1-0 lead. Oscar won the spot-kick following a defensive mistake by West Ham's Guy Demel.

West Ham goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen conceded the penalty with a foul, but he was not sent off as the last man. Instead, he received a yellow card.

Chelsea doubled their lead in the 34th minute through Oscar. Eden Hazard picked up the assist with a lay-off in midfield.

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce made a double change in the 40th minute. Joe Cole and Jack Collison left the match. Mohamed Diame and Modibo Maiga entered.

Petr Cech: The keeper had a quiet half. West Ham registered two shots, neither of which hit the target.

Branislav Ivanovic: Made three clearances.

Gary Cahill: Lifted the ball over the top to put Demel under pressure, leading to the mistake that preceded the penalty. Added five clearances in a strong display.

John Terry: Kept his head well to clear a decent West Ham chance.

Cesar Azpilicueta: Kept West Ham's right-sided players quiet. Both Jack Collison and Joe Cole came off before half-time.

John Obi Mikel: Solid in the middle, alongside Lampard. Completed 97 percent of his 31 passes.

Frank Lampard: Rammed in his penalty with authority. Later came close with a powerful header from distance.

Ramires: Completed only 63 percent of his 19 passes. Took 27 touches, third-fewest on the team.

Oscar: Shot high and wide when presented with a half-chance. Pounced alertly on a defensive mistake to win the penalty.

Eden Hazard: Set up Oscar's goal with a nice lay-off. Also created danger with his running.

Samuel Eto'o: Took 18 touches, second-fewest (only Cech had fewer) on the team. Recorded two shots, one on target.

Full-time analysis

West Ham held plenty of possession as they searched for a way back into the match. Chelsea, however, created perhaps more danger with quick counters.

The visitors frustrated West Ham's England starlet Ravel Morrison, and in the end won quite comfortably.

Lampard sealed the victory in the 82nd minute, making it 3-0 with a classy finish from the edge of the box.

Petr Cech: Cech was beaten when Maiga shot wide from close range following Demel's excellent work in the corner. The Chelsea goalkeeper never had to make a save.

Branislav Ivanovic: Speaking of Maiga's chance, Ivanovic was in the area and might have been able to clear off the line, had Maiga hit the target. Later, Ivanovic made a crucial headed clearance at the back post with Matthew Jarvis lurking.

Gary Cahill: Came close early in the half, but his header was cleared off the line by Mark Noble. Finished with seven clearances.

John Terry: Posted a team-best 10 clearances.

Cesar Azpilicueta: Started a sweeping counter that nearly led to a third goal early in the half. Created something of a humorous stir when he kicked the ball into touch, thinking it needed air. Referee Chris Foy quickly waved play on with minimal consideration.

John Obi Mikel: Screened the back four excellently.

Frank Larmpard: Had a sight of goal 10 minutes into the half, but his low shot was weak and easily saved. Finally scored his second in the 82nd minute, sealing the points with a well-taken low finish from the edge of the box.

Ramires: Completed 78 percent of his passes in central midfield.

Oscar: Forced off through injury straight after Lampard's second goal, Oscar was Chelsea's man of the match for his performance to that point.

Eden Hazard: Completed five 'key passes,' most on the team.

Samuel Eto'o: Replaced by Demba Ba in the 79th minute, Eto'o showed only flashes of his class.

Substitutes

Demba Ba: Tucked away a neat finish in stoppage time, but it was ruled out in a marginal offside decision.

Andre Schurrle: Tested Jaaskelainen with a shot from distance in stoppage time.

Michael Essien: Made his first league appearance of the season for Chelsea.
