Vanderbilt vs. Florida: TV Info, Spread, Injury Updates, Game Time and More

Chris RolingNov 7, 2013

Florida and Vanderbilt meet at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on Saturday in a battle of subpar SEC teams looking to rebound.

The Commodores sit at 4-4 and enter the contest after a 56-24 thrashing at the hands of No. 16 Texas A&M—a game in which Vanderbilt was without starting quarterback Austyn Carta-Samuels.

Florida touts a matching record and lacks a quality excuse for a three-game losing streak, although the schedule was a bit unkind with matchups against then-ranked No. 10 LSU and No. 14 Missouri to start the skid.

Can Tyler Murphy and Florida Bounce Back?

In place of starter Jeff Driskel, junior quarterback Tyler Murphy has been the piece holding the Gators back offensively, especially in the Gators' three straight losses.

In that time frame, Murphy has failed to throw for 200 yards, complete over 60 percent of his passes or throw a touchdown:

LSU15 27 115 55.6 00
Missouri15 29 92 51.7 01
Georgia13 29 174 44.8 00

Florida ranks just No. 105 in the nation at 21 points per game, which has done little to help an elite defensive unit that allows just 17.1 points on average. That group has also struggled in recent weeks and has allowed a total of 59 points in its past two outings.

Now, the Gators seemingly have a favorable matchup against Vanderbilt, a team that allows over 30 points per game. The offense will also be without Carta-Samuels under center, so now would be the time for Florida to snap its losing streak.

Prediction

The Florida defense looked like a deer in headlights last week against Georgia, allowing all 23 of the Bulldogs' points in the first half, which established a lead the Gators offense would fail to match.

Luckily for the unit, Vanderbilt's freshman signal-caller Patton Robinette has held the team back in recent weeks since taking over and has thrown for just over 300 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions in two starts.

While the Florida offense has been a disaster, the Gators will ride their defense against a hobbled Vanderbilt offense and squeak out a win on the road.

Final Score

Gators win 24-21
