And maybe, when you made Nemanja Vidic your captain, you didn't think Manchester United would possess the worst defensive record in the top half of the table after nine games.
But the good news is there are still 29 matches to go and plenty of time to right the early-season wrongs.
Here's a look at four players to get on your team for this weekend's fixtures.
| Player | Team | Opposition |
| Alvaro Negredo | Manchester City | Norwich City |
| Jose Fonte | Southampton | Stoke City |
| Robbie Brady | Hull City | Sunderland |
| Robin van Persie | Manchester United | Fulham |
All prices and points relate to the official Fantasy Premier League.
Alvaro Negredo
Negredo started on the bench in Manchester City’s defeat to Chelsea last weekend, but the Spanish striker’s omission was down to Manuel Pellegrini’s formation rather than his own poor form.
Pellegrini’s decision to put an extra man in midfield saw Negredo dropped from the starting XI, but he is expected to return for the visit of Norwich on Saturday.
The former Sevilla man, who has moved ahead of Edin Dzeko in the pecking order, has struck up a fruitful partnership with Sergio Aguero since arriving at the Etihad. He has a knack of being in the right place at the right time, and he is an exquisite finisher, which he proved with 31 goals in 40 games for Sevilla last season.
Per ESPN, he has bagged five goals and four assists for City this season and can be counted upon to increase that tally against Norwich.
Chris Hughton's side have conceded seven goals in their four games on the road this season, and they've mustered just one win in their last six league games.
Negredo will set you back a fairly hefty £9.1 million, but come Saturday evening, you will be glad you splashed the cash.
Jose Fonte
Southampton's incredible defensive record this season has been well-documented, but while Dejan Lovren has drawn most of the plaudits, his centre-back partner Jose Fonte has traveled under the radar.
Fonte is a bargain at just £5.3 million, and the 54 points he has racked up this season puts him inside the top 10 fantasy point scorers, ahead of players such as Oscar, Eden Hazard and Robin van Persie.
Southampton boast the best defensive record in the league, having conceded just three goals in their opening nine games. With a visit to Stoke this weekend, the Saints look set to continue their excellent run of form.
Stoke are tied with Norwich and Crystal Palace for the worst goalscoring record in the league, finding the net just six times. Peter Crouch is their only real threat, and if Fonte can keep him quiet, then he will add some points to your fantasy team this weekend.
Robbie Brady
The only thing that could bring Brady's excellent early-season form to a halt was his own hernia.
Per BBC Sport, the Irishman was forced under the knife after scoring three goals and accumulating 43 points in Hull's opening six games.
He struggled upon his return to action against Everton and started last weekend's game against Tottenham Hotspur on the bench. But with some valuable minutes under his belt, he will see the visit of Sunderland as the perfect opportunity to get back to goalscoring ways.
The Black Cats showed signs of a revival in their win over Newcastle last weekend, but Gus Poyet's side have shipped 21 goals this season, which is a Premier League high.
Brady, who has accounted for almost half of Hull's league goals, will relish the opportunity to exploit Sunderland's defensive deficiencies.
The former Manchester United man will look to take on another former Red Devil, Phil Bardsley, who plays at right-back, before cutting in and letting fly with his favoured right foot.
At just £5.2 million, he is worth every penny.
Robin van Persie
The Manchester United forward hasn't occupied many headlines this season, but he is gradually rediscovering the form that lit up the league last term.
While much of the talk has surrounded Wayne Rooney's return to full fitness and form, van Persie has gone about his business quietly.
After his opening-day haul of 17 points, van Persie stuttered in the fantasy stakes. But with 21 points in his last two games, the Dutchman repaid the faith of all those patient fantasy bosses who stuck by their captain.
Craven Cottage is the destination for van Persie this weekend, and it represents a great opportunity for him to continue his good run of form. Fulham have leaked six goals in their four home games, and van Persie's movement and close control should prove too much for the Fulham centre-backs, who are often found wanting for pace.
At £13.9 million, van Persie should have more points to his name by now. But you get the sense things are starting to click, and when they do, well, we all know how that ends.
