Texas Tech vs. Oklahoma: Red Raiders Offense Will Best Sooners' Top Pass Defense

The Texas Tech Red Raiders opened at No. 10 in the BCS standings, but they will have their toughest test of the 2013 season in Norman, Okla. facing the 15th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners.

Although the home team boasts the top pass defense in the country, Bob Stoops' bunch hasn't matched up against anything quite like Texas Tech's offense.

Something has to give on Saturday, and in looking at the Red Raiders' success combined with Oklahoma's prior opponents, it's apparent that the visitors will prevail in this Big 12 showdown.

Kliff Kingsbury used to quarterback Texas Tech in his college days. Now he's busy leading one of the most notable turnarounds in recent memory as a 34-year-old head coach.

Every stop in Kingsbury's coaching career has been successful. Between drawing up a high-octane offense at Houston with Case Keenum at quarterback, to calling the shots for the first freshman Heisman Trophy winner in Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel last season, Kingsbury has been a raging success.

No one has stopped him, and a largely untested Oklahoma defense isn't the best candidate to do so.

Bear in mind who were some of the opposing quarterbacks the Sooners faced in limiting opposing passing attacks to a nation-low 149.7 yards per game. Passers such as Notre Dame's Tommy Rees and TCU's Trevone Boykin constitute some of the team's toughest competition to date.

They aren't exactly offensive juggernauts.

Of the six wins Oklahoma has accumulated, the highest-scoring offense it faced in those contests was the unranked Fighting Irish, who entered Saturday's Week 9 action averaging 25.3 points per game—84th in the nation.

The only team ranked in the top 50 nationally in passing, per ESPN's Jake Trotter, was Texas; the Longhorns pummeled the Sooners 36-20.

Jump to the Red Raiders' explosive unit, which sports the No. 2 passing offense in putting up over 416 yards a game and scores an average of 41.1 points each time out.

Although Texas Tech has benefited from a rather easy slate to date, it's pretty clear which team has further to fall here.

Even when starting quarterback Baker Mayfield went out with a knee injury, fellow freshman Davis Webb stepped up for Texas Tech. Webb has thrived, throwing for 462 yards and two touchdowns to help pull out a key road victory at West Virginia, keeping Kingsbury's record perfect at 7-0.
