Premier League Betting Tips Week 8: Best Goalscorers to Back This Weekend
Premier League action is back after yet another international break, meaning it's time to consider which goalscorers are worth backing in Week 8.
Before we begin, here's a full schedule roundup, complete with predictions.
Goalscorers to Back This Weekend
Daniel Sturridge, Liverpool
Thereโs been a spark to Daniel Sturridgeโs play ever since he left Chelsea for Liverpool.
The English striker, who currently sits atop the Premier League top scorers list, has netted six goals in seven appearances for Brendan Rodgersโ side this season, per WhoScored.
Luis Suarezโs return has only galvanised the 24-year-oldโs sense of zip. The pairโlovingly afforded the nickname "SAS" by the British pressโhave scored five goals between them in the two games since Suarezโs ban concluded.
Newcastleโs only clean sheet of the season came when a misfiring West Ham side visited St. Jamesโ Park. Although buoyed by the recent 2-1 win against Cardiff, Alan Pardewโs team doesnโt have the defensive power to stop Liverpool hitting the back of the net.
Sturridge has scored the gameโs first goal in four of seven matches this season, ensuring that odds of 9-2 provide good value. He has netted inside the first 10 minutes on one occasionโduring Liverpoolโs 1-0 win over Manchester Unitedโserving up tasty odds of 12-1.
Considering he racked up a brace during the corresponding fixture last seasonโa match that finished 6-0โgutsy punters will even find room to place larger sums of cash on less likely bets.
Alvaro Negredo, Manchester City
Manuel Pellegrini will be extremely pleased to see Alvaro Negredo settling in quickly at Manchester City. The 28-year-old continues to play with assurance and the self-confidence of a man who knows he possesses all the assets to enjoy major success at the Etihad.
Predictably, he has suffered slightly under Cityโs constant rotation. In four starts and three Premier League substitute appearances, Negredo has powered home three goals.
It makes total sense for Pellegrini to start him against West Ham. Sam Allardyceโs men are notoriously physical and tricky to unlock at the Boleyn Ground. Big Sam has overseen four clean sheets in seven games this campaign, as the likes of Winston Reid, Guy Demel and Joey OโBrien maintain a successful run at the back.
Despite West Hamโs 3-0 triumph over Spurs, it will take a momentous effort to beat Manchester City. Fans will sing, bubbles will fly, but Negredoโs partnership with Sergio Aguero will also continue to blossom.
With this in mind, backing the former Sevilla hitman is a shrewd move, particularly when you add Yaya Toureโs ability to score goals into the mix as well.
Ross Barkley, Everton
Romelu Lukaku is the obvious bet to score against Hull.
But the man who loiters behind him in attacking midfield offers greater value for money, though as the table shows, thereโs great odds of 6-1 for those who want to tip both players.
Barkleyโs rise to prominence has been a long time coming. Roberto Martinezโs decision to draft him into an Everton lineup that lacked goals and urgency was a masterstroke, as was the loan deal for Lukaku.
Together, the young pair have the talent to challenge anyone in the league. Barkley continues to bomb forward, supporting his Belgian teammate with attacking runs that are both well-timed and incisive.
His recent goals against Norwich and Newcastle have come from these moments. Barkley isnโt afraid to shoot and is more than capable of rocketing ferocious attempts towards the oppositionโs keeper.
Hull have yet to keep a clean sheet on the road. Despite an excellent start to life in the top flight, Evertonโs guile and increased zest will be immensely difficult to stop. Back the boy Barkley to score and watch your money soar.
