Premier League Week 8 Picks: Teams Guaranteed to Win This Weekend

Christopher AtkinsJun 8, 2018

The Premier League resumes at full throttle this weekend, with eight fixtures set to take place on Saturday afternoon—including five of the much-discussed top six.

Andre Villas-Boas' Tottenham then take on Aston Villa on Sunday before Crystal Palace host Fulham on Monday night to complete the week's action.

Which of the 20 sides in action, then, look most likely to secure a comfortable victory?

ARSENAL vs. Norwich (H), Saturday

On current form this game is a complete mismatch, with Norwich having lost four of their past six outings, while Arsenal have remained unbeaten over the same period, per Whoscored.

Norwich have proved poor at retaining possession—averaging just 45 percent of the ball in the league this season—and have struggled to provide striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel with the ammunition he requires to score goals.

After a 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa on the opening day, however, Arsenal have responded in style with 16 points from the next six games.

Midfielder Aaron Ramsey has been in fine form in helping the Gunners rise up the table, while playmaker Mesut Ozil has added a real cutting edge in attack—already topping the Premier League assists chart with three.

CHELSEA vs. Cardiff (H), Saturday

Cardiff have performed admirably thus far this season, but with the club having experienced some internal turmoil over the international period, per Sky Sports, a trip to Stamford Bridge is far from ideal.

Per WhoScored, Cardiff are among the sides who have created the least chances per game this season, while Chelsea are second only to Southampton in terms of defensive record, conceding just four in seven games.

Add in the form of attacking midfielder Oscar, who has found the net three times in the league, and it is difficult to see Cardiff getting anything from one of the league's toughest away trips.

This will be the game where the Blues' struggling strikers can open their accounts for the season.

EVERTON vs. Hull (H), Saturday

Despite falling to their first defeat of the season against Manchester City ahead of the international break, it is hard not to be impressed by Roberto Martinez's side thus far this season.

Belgian Romelu Lukaku is in fine goalscoring form, and with the team having topped the Premier League possession charts prior to their trip to Manchester it is clear that Martinez's desired passing game is beginning to take hold at Goodison Park.

In contrast to Everton, who have been relatively tight in defence, Hull concede the third-most shots per game of any side in the league (16), while mustering less than 10 of their own each week. It is a record that must improve against the Toffees.

Despite Hull's impressive beginning to the campaign, they will struggle to cope with a fluent Everton side at Goodison Park.

SWANSEA vs. Sunderland (H) Saturday

Bottom of the table Sunderland travel to Swansea on Saturday in their first match under new manager Gustavo Poyet in what will be their final chance to register a first win of the season ahead of next week's Tyne-Wear derby.

The Black Cats have scored just five goals this campaign, the lowest of any Premier League side, and have conceded more than anyone else at the same time (16). They are statistics that do not offer much hope of survival at present.

Swansea have lost their past two fixtures, as the exertions of their Europa League campaign appeared to take their toll. With most of the squad well-rested after the international fortnight though, they should be rejuvenated this weekend.

The Swans will likely dominate possession, with a 56 percent average this season, and are defensively strong. Creating chances will be key, and, given Sunderland's defensive record, they should have plenty of opportunities.
