Team Continental Europe started the day by taking two-and-a-half matches out of four during the morning foursomes.
It was an impressive response after the team was beaten in three of the five matches on Friday, and it gave Jose Maria Olazabal's group a two-point lead heading into the afternoon session, as noted by The European Tour:
Great Britain and Ireland should have won a second match in the early session, but an extraordinary play by Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano kept it from happening.
After a poor tee shot that caused his ball to be stuck in an awkward lie on No. 3, the Spanish golfer hit a shot that would have made Seve Ballesteros proud, knocking his second shot to within feet of the cup for a par.
Fernandez-Castano's brilliant play characterized his team's impressive morning, but Continental Europe absorbed a few haymakers from its opponent in the afternoon.
The Scottish duo of Paul Lawrie and Stephen Gallacher got Team Great Britain and Ireland off to a beautiful start, winning the opening match of the afternoon session 2-and-1.
The next two matches were split, and Continental Europe earned its only win on the afternoon, when Joost Luiten and Gregory Bourdy defeated Chris Wood and Scott Jamieson.
Paul Casey and David Lynn wrapped up the afternoon session with a 2-and-1 win over Miguel Angel Jimenez and Matteo Manassero.
As he's done throughout his legendary career, Jimenez played brilliantly at times. He and partner Manassero jumped out to an early lead, but Casey and Lynn came charging back with four birdies on the back nine to win the match by one.
There are 10 singles matches set for Day 4, as shown by the European Tour.
With the score tied heading into Sunday's action, it's anybody's guess as to which team will come away victorious. One thing that is sure, however, is that these highly competitive golfers will give fans something to cheer about in the final session.
