Premier League Week 6 Predictions: Teams on Upset Alert
One of the best things about the Premier League is that an upset is never too far away. Liverpool limping to a home defeat to Southampton and Newcastle suffering the same fate against Hull were two such upsets last week.
Week 6 could offer more of the same, and there are a few teams who should be wary of their upcoming fixtures.
Southampton
Fresh from their famous win at Anfield, Southampton will be expected to breeze bast struggling Crystal Palace. However, Southampton haven't scored more than one goal in an EPL game since April last year, so Palace will always have an opportunity to get something from this fixture.
The Saints have also failed to score from open play at all this season, so it should make for an interesting contest. Palace may have lost all but one of their games, but they have looked better going forward than their Week 6 opponents.
Although the London club lost to Manchester United in Week 4, they stubbornly refused to lay down and admit they were beaten, despite being down to 10 men.
It's going to take a big effort for Southampton to see them off—and more than one goal.
Arsenal
Although Arsenal recovered from their Week 1 defeat to Aston Villa by winning the next three games, Swansea's historic win over Valencia will have given the side a huge boost. The Swans' league position belies their talent, and Arsenal can't forget that.
Across all competitions, Michu has scored four goals this year, so he is once again the main Swansea threat. Michael Laudrup's men have a neat passing style that creates a lot of chances, and they were unlucky not to beat Liverpool in Week 4.
Arsenal have been impressive since the arrival of Mesut Ozil, and Aaron Ramsey has also found some form since returning from injury. They will look for a convincing victory here, but Swansea's European adventures make them an ideal candidate for another giant-killing performance.
Manchester City
Manuel Pellegrini's Citizens are a difficult bunch to predict. A loss to Cardiff and some unconvincing performances against Hull and Stoke make them ripe for an upset when they face Aston Villa in Week 6.
Villa steadied their ship with a victory at Norwich and will be looking to build on that performance. They're likely to be without Christian Benteke, who left the field with a groin injury, but his replacement Libor Kozak wasted no time in getting on the scoresheet.
City need to resurrect the performance that saw them convincingly sweep aside Newcastle in their opening fixture. Brad Guzan denied Norwich on many occasions, so a repeat performance will see City frustrated.
Pellegrini's team should dominate possession, but the chances they create have to be taken. Paul Lambert's side have found success on the counter before, so City should be wary of committing too many men forward.
It's a big task for Villa, but their victory over Arsenal showed they are quite capable of causing an upset.
