Los Angeles Galaxy vs. Isidro Metapan: Sept. 18
The star-studded Los Angeles Galaxy are arguably the most talented club in the field, and they'll get a quick test at home Wednesday against Isidro Metapan.
The El Salvador club faces off against L.A. on Wednesday, and three points will be crucial to the Galaxy as they look to make it two wins in two matches in the Champions League.
Landon Donovan admitted in a report by Thomas Floyd of Goal.com that his squad had some stamina problems after many players took lengthy World Cup qualifying trips, which is certainly a storyline to watch for.
Can they get their legs rested enough to run all over one of El Salvador's best club in Metapan, or will the underdogs come out swinging and lay a crushing blow?
Alajuelense vs. America: Oct. 22
These teams already played once, but the second and final meeting is likely to have a massive impact on the chances of each club in advancing past the group stage.
Alajuelense got the best of America in a grueling 1-0 defensive display, with the only goal coming from the penalty spot. However, America is one of the powerhouses in Mexican football and will be aiming to keep a bid alive for their sixth Champions League title.
This showdown will take place Oct. 22 and serve as the final match of the group stage for both clubs. As of now, these two clubs join Sporting San Miguelito in a three-way tie in Group 4.
If America can fix its offensive mistakes and find a way to generate some goals the second time around, it could clinch a spot in the knockout stage.
Olimpia vs. Sporting Kansas City: Oct. 23
Like the previous matchup, this Olimpia vs. Sporting Kansas City showdown will also conclude the group stage, and that means the stakes will be even higher.
Sporting are enjoying a successful ride near the top of the MLS as they currently sit in third place in the standings, and they are also 2-0 thus far in the group stage with a 2-0 win over Olimpia recently.
However, Olimpia is the most successful club in Honduran football history with 27 domestic titles and two Champions League titles.
Olimpia is still in second place in Group 2 with three points, but by then, it could be either get a point or go home for the popular Honduras club.
If Kansas City keeps cruising it, might rest some starters for this matchup. But still count on this to be one of the most intriguing matches of the group stage.
