Premier League Week 4 Picks: Highlighting This Week's Likeliest Blowouts
The Premier League returns this weekend, again, having had its initial return punctuated by an international break.
No side has played since the close of the transfer window, meaning many teams will have new personnel that will redefine their perceived strength.
Clubs always find the post-international games one of the hardest rounds on the calendar, with players often arriving back with little or no time to prepare.
That considered, here's a look at the three teams in most danger of suffering defeat upon their return.
Newcastle (vs. Aston Villa, away)
Despite coming off a win against Fulham, Alan Pardew's side have been struggling with their play this season, scoring just one solitary goal. The Magpies have only registered 10 shots on target—nine of which came in that home win over Fulham—and the visitors will struggle for success against Aston Villa.
Paul Lambert's side have rapidly improved from last season, impressively competing in three testing opening fixtures against Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.
Four points is actually a harsh return from that sequence, and Villa will enjoy facing a side unlikely to be involved in the Champions League race. Expect the home side to comfortably take the points in this one.
Crystal Palace (vs. Manchester United, away)
Hardly the bravest call, but newly promoted Crystal Palace will do well to escape Old Trafford with anything other than a brutal hammering this weekend.
Manchester United will be fully intent on silencing their growing number of critics, following a poor showing at Liverpool and a dismal overall transfer window.
While the Eagles have enjoyed a respectable return to the Premier League, expect goals, goals and more goals—with very few going in for Palace.
Norwich (vs. Tottenham, away)
Despite selling Gareth Bale, Tottenham have assembled an all-star squad crammed full of incredible world talent.
Two disjointed 1-0 wins and a disappointing result against Arsenal highlight the current lack of chemistry in the squad, but expect that to change, starting this weekend.
Norwich are unlikely to arrive with much attacking desire, and this game will prove the perfect opportunity to weave together attacking combinations and familiarise the offence. Though Spurs have not scored from open play yet, expect that statistic to be well and truly forgotten this weekend.
