Fantasy Premier League 2013 Sleepers: Top 5 Bargains for the New Season

Joshua HaywardJun 8, 2018

With the new Premier League season less than a fortnight away, players of the official Barclays Premier League Fantasy Football game are sure to be hunting around for bargains after spending a large portion of their £100 million on big names like Robin van Persie, John Terry and Stevan Jovetic.

So here are a few players who will come in considerably cheaper than you'd imagine but are sure to feature and perform well in the Premier League, thus accumulating points for your Fantasy Team.

Jores Okore

Jores Okore £4.5m

Aston Villa signed the young, Danish centre-half from Nordsjaelland after he impressed in last season's Champions League. The 20-year-old Ivory Coast-born defender was the standout player as Chelsea visited Denmark.

Strong and equipped with pace, Okore is sure to partner with Villa captain Ron Vlaar at the heart of the defence, and, due to other defensive reinforcements, clean sheets should occur more often at Villa Park this season.

£4.5 million could be one of the bargains of the summer.

Carlos Cuellar

Carlos Cuellar £4.5m

Yes, Carlos Cuellar. Not the most exciting of picks, but the Spaniard is sure to earn you points.

Having transferred to Sunderland from Aston Villa, Cuellar experienced a somewhat turbulent season in the North East with the managerial changes but was one of the Black Cats' star performers as they narrowly avoided relegation.

Cuellar was awarded Man of the Match as many times as any other Premier League defender last season, and, according to stats from Squawka, the defender was put through his paces due to a less-than-impressive midfield in front of him:

"

With 271 clearances, 48 interceptions and 27 blocks to his name, Cuellar was kept busy at the back due to a faltering midfield in front of him. Having won a respectable 64% of his headed duels and 63% of his tackles, that sort of consistency looks sure to be rewarded in Paolo Di Canio’s new-look side this coming term.

"

Luke Shaw

Luke Shaw £4.5m

There must be something in the water down in Southampton. Theo Walcott and Gareth Bale were both products of their youth team, and the latest starlet, Luke Shaw, is no different.

The Saints left-back enjoyed a terrific first season in the Premier League, rarely ever putting a foot wrong, apart from showing Gareth Bale onto his left foot to allow the Tottenham striker a shot on goal during their match. And what a shot it was, too.

The 18-year-old featured 25 times for the Saints last term, producing performances to warrant a link to Jose Mourinho's Chelsea, as the Daily Mail's Neil Ashton reported.

Cheick Tiote

4 of 5

Cheick Tiote £4.5m

You know exactly what you're getting with the combative Newcastle midfielder: a 100 percent blood, sweat and tears performance week in, week out.

Not only is the Ivorian incredibly strong, his vision and range of passing are second-to-none—completing 100 percent of passes attempted during his Newcastle debut in 2010.

Tiote commands the midfield, often the fulcrum in the Magpies' attacking ventures.

Tiote will score you points all over the field—from his range of passing to his defensive endeavour, as well as chipping in with the odd goal.

Wilfried Bony

5 of 5

Wilfried Bony £8m

Definitely not the cheapest "bargain" out there with a price tag of £8 million, but Wilfried Bony is sure to rake in the points for your fantasy team. Wherever the Ivorian has been, he has scored goals. An impressive 46 goals in 65 appearances for Vitesse Arnhem was enough to earn him a £12 million move to Michael Laudrup's highflying Swansea.

The Swans received many compliments and gained many accolades for their attractive style of football last term—something that Bony will benefit from next season with the array of technical, attacking footballers at Laudrup's disposal.

If it's goals you're looking for, then look no further than Wilfried Bony.
