NBA Rumors: Sebastian Telfair, Beno Udrih and Latest Free-Agency Buzz

Jun 8, 2018

Dwight Howard and other big names may have found new homes on the NBA free-agency market, but there is still plenty of quality to be had, and the smart franchises know this is the perfect time to build critical depth to make a championship run.

The New York Knicks are still out there looking for help in order to impress Carmelo Anthony so he does not opt out after the season.

Memphis got a taste of a serious postseason run and is still attempting to add talent, as are the Los Angeles Clippers as the West continues to get deeper and deeper.

Knicks Haven't Lost in a Month 🤷‍♂️

They may not be the flashiest of signings, but guys like Beno Udrih and seasoned vets such as Antawn Jamison could make all the difference down the stretch.

The following is a roundup of the latest rumors pertaining to free agency. It would be unwise to write off the potential moves at this point because it's impossible to predict when injuries or a need for depth will strike.

Heat Hot for Sebastian Telfair

The Miami Heat have not made it a secret this offseason—the team is looking for more depth at the point guard position.

Miami has come close on a few veterans, but appears to be slowly increasing interest in Sebastian Telfair according to USA Today's Alex Kennedy:

Telfair was at one point thought to be close to signing with his hometown New York Knicks, but that has fallen through thanks to a lack of cap space.

Instead Telfair may find a home in Miami on a contender. Telfair averaged just 5.6 points per game last season with the Toronto Raptors and should come at a cheap price for Miami.

The Heat have plenty of options left on the market when it comes to point guards with names such as Mo Williams and Delonte West available, but Telfair appears to be the one. It's a smart move for the right price, so watch for the defending champs to pull it off.

Grizzlies Make a Point of Point Guards

The Memphis Grizzlies are hoping to make another run into the postseason next year and clearly think the depth at point guard is an issue that could block the progression.

For that reason, the Grizzlies have dialed up interest in both free-agent point guards Mo Williams and Beno Udrih according to ESPN's Marc Stein via Twitter:

Williams is now at the age of 30, but posted almost 13 points per game a year ago. He has been linked to a variety of teams, but he has yet to make it known whether he is looking for money or a chance at a championship on the open market.

Udrih has spent time with both the Orlando Magic and Milwaukee Bucks in recent years and been an effective role player as he averaged 4.6 assists per game. He's a bit older than Williams at this point at 31 years of age.

Memphis is clearly serious about adding someone behind Mike Conley and Jerryd Bayless. There's plenty of talent left on the market, and the Grizzlies appear to be finally narrowing down their choices. Both Williams and Udrih are ideal fits right now if the price is right.

Clippers Continue Search for Veteran Help

There are a plethora of intriguing veteran names still on the market including Stephen Jackson, Richard Hamilton and Antawn Jamison, but only one is anywhere close to finding a new home.

That lucky man is 37-year-old Jamison, who recently met with Clippers head coach Doc Rivers for dinner according to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne:

"

No offer was made, but there are plans for the Clippers and Jamison's representatives to speak soon. The Clippers have been interested in Jamison, who played for the Lakers last season, for some time but this was the first meeting between the two sides. He had surgery on his wrist after the season, but is now recovered and back to performing basketball-related activities.

"

Despite his age, Jamison had quite the impact with the Los Angeles Lakers last year as he posted over nine points per game.

This late in his career, the Clippers would not be asking him to make regular contributions, but instead act as a veteran presence on a younger roster.

It's really a perfect match. Jamison gets an actual shot at a championship, and the Clippers get a veteran to help steer the locker room and make significant contributions when needed.

If Jamison ends up with the Clippers, it will further distance them from their cross-town rivals and better align them on the championship path.
