Analyzing 4-Star QB Kyle Allen's Newly Released Top 5
Kyle Allen, a 4-star quarterback, has released his top five, and it features some of the hottest programs in college football.
Erik McKinney of ESPN.com reports that Allen has narrowed his interest list down to Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and UCLA.
The 4-star quarterback had something to say about each program, per McKinney:
"On Notre Dame: “Notre Dame is unique because it’s a national power, with a top ten world school -- great mix of the two. Also, very great people there.
"
On Ohio State: “Ohio State is Ohio State. Great campus, awesome alumni and a great coaching staff. Lots of support from everyone around the university and a great chance to make it to the NFL, as you see with [Urban] Meyer's track record with QBs."
On Oklahoma State: “Unbelievable facilities. So much support from alumni and fans. And a QB friendly offense. The new OC (Mike Yurcich) is unknown but will be known seen because he is one of the smartest guys I've met. [Mike] Gundy is a player's coach, too."
On Texas A&M: “Another place with awesome facilities. Great coaching staff with [Kevin] Sumlin and [QB coach Jake] Spavital. Another place with great people and awesome support. Really on the rise and have a great recruiting base. Also would be playing SEC football."
On UCLA: “UCLA is another [Notre Dame]-type school as in education and football. Another school on the rise. Amazing people. Coaches are great. Coach [Jim] Mora is a great dude, very family oriented. The Mazzones are very smart guys. Amazing campus too."
Notre Dame is the most interesting option on his interest list, mainly considering the "quarterback controversies" the program has experienced as of late. Perhaps Allen can see opportunity with the Fighting Irish depending on whether or not he believes Everett Golson can come back from academic suspension, according to Daniel Uthman of USA Today. He'd also have to have the confidence to believe he can beat out Malik Zaire in a quarterback competition.
Either way, he'd be playing for a powerful program with national championship aspirations. The same could be said for Ohio State, with the added bonus of being coached by Urban Meyer. Those two national championships under Meyer's belt are a big-time draw on the recruiting trail.
For Oklahoma State, it's obvious that Allen likes the facilities, and he could put up a ton of numbers in the Cowboys offense.
Speaking of putting up numbers, Johnny Manziel threw for 3,706 yards 26 touchdowns and won the Heisman trophy as a freshman at Texas A&M. Manziel will eventually be leaving a huge legacy, but Allen has the potential to create his own name in that offense and be a star at the college level as well.
UCLA may seem like the "odd school out" to casual observers of college football, but Jim Mora has the Bruins poised to take over in the Pac-12, or at the very least compete to be the top team. UCLA was one of the hottest teams on the recruiting trail last cycle, so don't count out the Bruins in the race for Allen. He could end up being the eventual successor to Brett Hundley.
Either way, these are five great options for a quarterback recruit with the potential to be just as great.
Allen is from Scottsdale, Ariz. and is ranked as the No. 5 pro-style quarterback in the nation, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
As it stands, 10-of-12 experts in the 247Sports Crystal Ball think he will end up at UCLA. The other two predict Allen will land at Notre Dame. It will be interesting to see how those predictions hold up with his newly released interest list.
