Every Top 25 College Football Program's Dream 2014 Recruit

Edwin WeathersbyJun 8, 2018

At the beginning of each recruiting cycle, coaching staffs hold a series of meetings to discuss prospective recruits. They set up their boards and prioritize their favorite targets. Each program has at least one "dream" prospect listed.

Prospects like Jabrill Peppers, Andrew Brown, Quin Blanding, Da'Shawn Hand and of course Leonard Fournette are certainly dream recruits. Using Adam Kramer's post-spring top 25 rankings, a dream recruit will be listed for each program.

Every coach goes to bed at night and dreams of landing that one stud prospect.

Player evaluations are based on review of tape at Scout.comRivals247Sports and ESPNU.

25. Arizona State

1 of 25

Dream Recruit: Kyle Allen, QB

Todd Graham runs a spread offense, which requires a great QB. Allen is his dream recruit. The 6'3", 197-pounder is the top in-state prospect for Arizona State.

Allen has good mechanics, scans the field well and can deliver accurate throws. He would be a great fit in Graham's offense and could quickly ascend up the depth chart.

24. Baylor

2 of 25

Dream Recruit: K.D. Cannon, WR

Baylor runs a high-octane offense, which fits the general offensive profile of the Big 12. The Bears toss the rock around more than they run it, so landing good receivers is a priority each cycle.

In 2013, Art Briles signed WR Robbie Rhodes. Pairing him up with Cannon would be a dream come true. The top WR in Texas, the 6'0", 160-pounder runs solid routes and has great hands.

23. Northwestern

3 of 25

Dream Recruit: Justin Jackson, RB

Northwestern doesn't routinely sign highly ranked classes, nor do the Wildcats host many top-ranked recruits on visits.

However, Pat Fitzgerald has shown a knack for landing solid players who fit inside his program well.

Jackson is already committed to Northwestern. The RB will bring more explosiveness to the offense. At 5'11" and 180 pounds, he has exceptional quickness and is one of the top scat backs in the nation.

22. Boise State

4 of 25

Dream Recruit: Kalen Ballage, ATH

Ballage would be an excellent recruit to sign for Boise State. He is a 6'2", 215-pounder who can play both RB and WR on offense. 247Sports lists his 40-yard dash time at 4.37.

Ballage's size and speed would be used well by Chris Petersen's staff. He would give the Broncos more versatility and would cause matchup problems in the Mountain West.

21. Oregon State

5 of 25

Dream Recruit: T.V. Williams, WR

Williams does not look like much of a player on the hoof, but there's more to the 5'8", 144-pounder than one would think. He has outstanding quickness and agility, which helps him make big plays.

Mike Riley is not afraid to sign undersized players, evidenced by Jacquizz Rodgers once being a featured player for the Beavers. Look for Williams to be welcomed with open arms should he choose Oregon State.

20. Nebraska

6 of 25

Dream Recruit: Andrew Brown, DT

Bo Pelini once coached Ndamukong Suh and saw what a great DT could do at Nebraska. Brown could do similar things in Lincoln.

The 6'4" DT will weigh more than 300 pounds early in his career and has great strength. Brown can explode at the snap, toss a blocker aside and make plays against the run and pass.

19. Oklahoma

7 of 25

Dream Recruit: Myles Garrett, DE

The Sooners are after several dream recruits. Almost any elite prospect could find himself No. 1 on Bob Stoops' board.

However, Garrett should be the choice. The 6'5", 247-pound DE is an outstanding talent. He has a chiseled frame to go along with great speed, strength and athleticism.

Stoops would do backflips if he landed Garrett.

18. UCLA

8 of 25

Dream Recruit: Adoree' Jackson, CB

Jim Mora is a DB coach at heart, and great cover corner like Jackson has emerged in his backyard. Mora must be pinching himself, as the 5'11", 185-pound Jackson is a dream prospect.

With his quick feet, loose hips and short-area quickness, Jackson could see early playing time if he signs with the Bruins. Mora would certainly spend time personally coaching Jackson each day and has to be excited at the thought of his dream possibly coming true.

17. Oklahoma State

9 of 25

Dream Recruit: David Cornwell, QB

The 6'5", 230-pound Cornwell may not end up in Stillwater, but Mike Gundy probably secretly watches film of him every night before he goes to bed.

Gundy is a former QB who has Oklahoma State running a great spread offense. A QB of Cornwell's talent leading Oklahoma State to a Big 12 title is something Gundy has to dream about.

16. Texas

10 of 25

Dream Recruit: Jamal Adams, S

Adams is a 6'0", 200-pound safety with great instincts, range and speed. Mack Brown just saw Kenny Vaccaro get drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the first round, and Adams is a similar prospect.

Adams is a priority to Mack Brown and his staff. Signing the talented safety would bring more stability to the back end of the Longhorns' defense.

15. TCU

11 of 25

Dream Recruit: Myles Garrett, DE

The 6'5", 247-pound Garrett would be Gary Patterson's biggest commitment to date at TCU. Myles is the kind of prospect who would really provide a recruiting breakthrough for the Horned Frogs, as Shaun Cody did for USC.

Garrett's athleticism would allow Patterson to play him both as a DE and as an OLB. With his strength and power at the point of attack, Garrett could also see action at DT one day.

14. LSU

12 of 25

Dream Recruit: Leonard Fournette, RB

Fournette is the type of recruit a coach dreams about every year. The 6'1", 232-pound RB is coveted by Les Miles so much that LSU did not sign an RB in 2013.

Labeling Fournette a perfect prospect may be unfair, but he's close to it. The Louisiana native would be an immediate starter for the Tigers, no matter who is atop the current depth chart.

13. Florida State

13 of 25

Dream Recruit: David Sharpe, OT

The 'Noles missed out on 5-star OT Laremy Tunsil in 2013, so landing Sharpe is a high priority. From Jacksonville, the 6'7", 288-pounder is a future franchise LT.

Jimbo Fisher is an offensive-minded coach. He understands how important it is to protect the QB. By the time Sharpe is ready to go, Jameis Winston will be a superstar, so making sure his pocket stays clean will be a prime objective for FSU.

Sharpe would certainly help reach that goal.

12. Michigan

14 of 25

Dream Recruit: Jabrill Peppers, CB

Peppers is Brady Hoke's dream recruit, even though Da'Shawn Hand is on the board. With his 6'1", 205-pound frame, speed, strength and instincts, Peppers may be the next Patrick Peterson.

Peppers will give his all for Big Blue, as the New Jersey native grew up a fan of the Wolverines. He will become a team captain before he leaves Ann Arbor for the NFL.

11. Florida

15 of 25

Dream Recruit: Lorenzo Carter, DE/OLB

The Gators run a hybrid 3-4/4-3 defense under Will Muschamp, which features the "Buck" LB position. Ronald Powell currently plays this position at Florida, and it takes advantage of his athletic ability and pass-rushing skills.

Carter would also be a great fit as a Buck LB in Gainesville and just so happens to be one of the best players in the country. He can shoot off the line, convert speed to power and plays with great range.

10. Clemson

16 of 25

Dream Recruit: Deshaun Watson, QB

Clemson's offensive coordinator, Chad Morris, has developed current starter Tajh Boyd into a potential high draft pick. Morris will be considered for several head-coaching jobs after the 2013 season, but he may be inclined to stay so he can coach Watson.

The 6'3", 200-pound dual-threat QB is from Georgia and has good field vision. Watson can make throws on the run after escaping the rush from the pocket.

9. South Carolina

17 of 25

Dream Recruit: Da'Shawn Hand, DE

Steve Spurrier knows Jadeveon Clowney is leaving after this season and that he must get another dominant pass-rusher. Hand would fill that void immediately and should pick up where Clowney left off if he signs with the Gamecocks.

With his great snap quickness, strength and playmaking potential, Hand is the apple of Spurrier's 2014 recruiting eye.

8. Louisville

18 of 25

Dream Recruit: Khairi Clark, DT

Charlie Strong recruited in Florida during his time coaching in Gainesville under Urban Meyer. Strong understands how deep the talent is in the Sunshine State and wants to bring some to Louisville.

Clark is from South Florida and the 6'2", 325-pound DT is explosive and powerful in the trenches. With Strong being a defensive-minded coach, having a great DT to build around like Clark would be a dream come true.

7. Notre Dame

19 of 25

Dream Recruit: Tyler Luatua, TE

Brian Kelly likes using tight ends in his passing game as featured receivers and Luatua has good hands. He's a 6'4", 230-pound seam player from Southern California who projects to be a great player in college. Luatua has solid speed, can separate from linebackers and also is a willing blocker.

6. Georgia

20 of 25

Dream Recruit: Sony Michel, RB

Lorenzo Carter or Raekwon McMillan were up for consideration, but Michel is too special. Mark Richt will only have "Gurshall" for two more seasons in all likelihood, and a replacement must be found.

Michel will be up for the challenge when he arrives in Athens and has the ability to take away some carries from the two incumbents.

5. Stanford

21 of 25

Dream Recruit: Solomon Thomas, DL

Thomas is a DE, but the 6'3", 256-pounder will grow into an interior DL in college. At Stanford, Thomas could fit in well as an end in David Shaw's 3-4 defense.

Thomas is not a quick pass-rusher, but rather a strong read-and-react player. He can hold up at the point of attack, anchor and make stops versus the run. Thomas would be a starter early in his career on The Farm.

4. Oregon

22 of 25

Dream Recruit: Budda Baker, ATH

The 5'10", 175-pound Baker is from Washington and could play safety in college. However, he has excellent speed and is instinctive with the ball in his hands.

Baker is a great return man, which is why he could be a dangerous RB or WR. Oregon is known for its speed. Baker could be a replacement for De'Anthony Thomas.

3. Texas A&M

23 of 25

Dream Recruit: Hoza Scott, OLB

Myles Garrett was considered, but Scott's ability to rush the passer while also playing the traditional OLB role makes him a dream come true for Kevin Sumlin. The Aggies must continue to stock their defense with talent and the 6'3", 225-pound Scott has that and more.

He can play the "Will" role in a 4-3 scheme while also playing DE in sub-packages. Scott also has the ability to play OLB in a 3-4 and can cover TEs and RBs.

2. Ohio State

24 of 25

Dream Recruit: Raekwon McMillan, LB

Urban Meyer is building the Buckeyes into a team that can compete with SEC schools. McMillan, at 6'2" and 249 pounds, has the size and strength to play against run-dominant B1G schools and the speed to play against SEC schools.

Meyer also wants to add more linebackers to the roster, which only makes McMillan that much more of a dream recruit.

1. Alabama

25 of 25

Dream Recruit: Marlon Humphrey, CB

Nick Saban loves to gather DBs every February and 'Bama is need of them this year. Humphrey is regarded as one of the elite CB prospects in the country and has everything Saban wants in a CB.

Humphrey is 6'1", more than 180 pounds and has great instincts. He plays well in zone coverage and can also be effective as an off-man cover guy. Humphrey also has a great work ethic and his father, Bobby, also played at Alabama.

Humphrey would be a seamless fit into Saban's defensive scheme.
