The Best and Worst Photobombs of the NBA Season

Jesse DorseyJun 8, 2018

The 2012-13 season has been the season of many things. Torn ACLs, streaks and fans hitting half-court shots at halftime have been at an all-time high, as have NBA players photo- and videobombing teammates during postgame interviews.

Obviously, Chris Bosh is the pioneer of the NBA postgame videobomb, dating all the way back to last year's playoffs and beyond.

However, he's carried it over to this season and perfected the art of being a weird, goofy fellow.

Bosh has perfected the art, but others around the league have taken it upon themselves to improve on Bosh's techniques and turn it all into a fun, videobombing season, where guys in the league aren't afraid of showing off their goofier sides.

So who did it best, and who needs to go back to the tape and take notes? There are quite a few to choose from, but we've got a list of the definite best and worst from the past season.

No. 3 Worst: DeMar Isn't Dedicated

1 of 6

This one started out promising. DeMar DeRozan, a shorter player (relatively), sneaking up behind Amir Johnson and subtly peeking over his shoulder is the perfect videobomb.

It's difficult to really notice what he's doing at first, but once he hangs around for a while, it becomes obvious that there's some shenanigans going on.

DeRozan hangs around for a bit, a solid five to 10 seconds, before Johnson gives him the recognition and he simply walks away.

A videobomb requites a lot more dedication than a simple photobomb, and when you're hanging around behind the interviewee, dedication is key.

DeMar comes back around a few seconds later and leaves again. At that point it became too obvious and turned the corner from being a solid videobomb to being some guy staring at a camera.

No. 2 Worst: The Clippers Team Up

2 of 6

What was evident in the Los Angeles Clippers' attempt at a videobomb is that they lack the experience and practice that Chris Bosh and the Miami Heat have.

They have one thing going for them: They're all having a lot of fun.

DeAndre Jordan pulls off a nice Ricky Bobby, having no idea what to do with his hands, but they all just squirm uncomfortably otherwise.

The group seems more like they're intruding on the interview, rather than slowly, sneakily dropping in and giving a bit of a laugh to the people watching, while the guy being interviewed remains absolutely clueless.

It was a great attempt, and they show a ton of promise. However, with the Heat and Chris Bosh to deal with, they're simply amateurs.

No. 1 Worst: Too Many Expectations

3 of 6

At some point the gag becomes predictable, and when it becomes predictable, the television crews start looking for it to happen.

That's why LeBron James' videobomb of Chris Bosh gets the bottom spot for the season.

It's not the execution that's the big problem, but the fact that it's given away before it actually happens.

With Bosh getting interviewed, speculation begins early that there may be a different player to creep up and make a face, or just do something weird.

Right from the get-go we all expect somebody to come up, whether we're aware of the fact that the Heat have a history of bombing or not.

LeBron waits long enough to make it seem as if there's nothing coming, and as soon as all guards are collectively down, LeBron comes through with the robot. The only problem is that the television crew switches cameras so we see it coming.

It's not as entertaining with a backstage pass to the bomb; it needs to be a surprise for there to be a real effect.

No. 3 Best: LeBron James Will Haunt Your Dreams

4 of 6

I'm not sure whether or not to call this one of the best or one of the worst, simply on the grounds that it's absolutely terrifying.

With Ray Allen grabbing the unlikely interview at the end of the game, that leaves Chris Bosh (the master) or LeBron James (the master's apprentice) in a perfect spot to compete for the privilege of bombing this one.

LeBron finally pops up and contorts his face into the most horrifying smile never painted across a doll's face or put together in a cartoon.

His face looks so unlike his own that it becomes moderately horrifying and extremely shocking. I suppose because it's shocking, that would make it a success.

No. 2 Best: Pietrus Jammin'

5 of 6

When you're going to put together a videobomb dance, there are two options, one infinitely harder than the other.

The easier option is to simply dance through. LeBron James and Chris Bosh have both shown that this season by doing the "Dave Chappelle Robot Guy" spinning, loose robot across the screen and slipping off.

Mickael Pietrus' videobomb is much tougher. He dances in, stops right in the middle of the pregame show and gets dancing.

Pietrus keeps dancing, even through the point when he gets his recognition, and keeps going, at least through the end of this clip. Who knows, he might still be out there somewhere, dancing in between Paul Jones and Sherman Hamilton in their day-to-day lives.

No. 1 Best: The Chris Bosh Collection

6 of 6

There isn't a sole moment this season that encapsulates the pinnacle of videobombing. Instead, it seems pertinent to give out a lifetime achievement award of sorts.

Chris Bosh has been videobombing for ages now. In fact, I suppose you could say he's been doing it since before it was ever cool.

People criticized him for being too weird, and too goofy, until everybody else started doing it. He's a true pioneer.

I suppose if you want to point out a single moment that would be the tippy-top point in Bosh's bombing career, it would have to be his stone-jawed, rubber-faced photobomb behind LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Micky Arison while at the White House.

How many folks can say that they've photobombed at the White House?

Give it up to one of the league's strangest players; he started a fun trend that everybody seems keen to get down on.
