Aaron Gordon, Andrew Wiggins and Top Performers at McDonald's All-American Game
While much of the focus in the college basketball world is on the Final Four at the moment, fans everywhere took some time to check out the sport's up-and-coming stars in the McDonald's All-American Game on Wednesday night.
Many of the top prospects in the nation took part in the game, which was won 110-99 by the West. The scoreboard wasn't the important part, though, as every player attempted to stand out as individuals. Many of them most certainly did, so it is difficult to mention a handful of them out of fear of leaving some out.
With that said, there were definitely a few recruits who appeared to be a cut above the rest on Wednesday. That doesn't necessarily guarantee success at the collegiate level, but here are the three prospects who impressed most in the McDonald's All-American Game.

Report: Biggest Spenders in Men's CBB 🤑
Aaron Gordon
The past couple of days have definitely been busy for forward Aaron Gordon. The 6'8" star announced his intention to play college basketball for the Arizona Wildcats on Tuesday, according to Percy Allen of The Seattle Times. Just one day after that, Gordon exploded for 24 points and eight rebounds for the West en route to being named the most valuable player of the McDonald's All-American Game.
Gordon is the No. 6-recruit in the country, according to 247Sports.com's composite rankings. He is somewhat of a swing player and he has the ball skills necessary to play shooting guard, but his height suggests that he should be a small forward. He packs just 210 pounds on to his 6'8" frame, so once he bulks up a little bit, he should be able to transition to the power forward position as well.
Gordon's athleticism was on full display on Wednesday night as he threw down a number of thunderous dunks. Gordon was also strong on the defensive end as he cleaned the glass. He only made four of his six free throws, so that is an area in which he can improve, but it is clear that he has all the potential in the world.
Andrew Wiggins
While there was definitely a lot of intrigue surrounding Gordon heading into the game due to his commitment to Arizona, there is no doubt that Andrew Wiggins was the main attraction. Wiggins is the No. 1-prospect in the nation, according to 247Sports.com, and he is the only person in the top 19 who has yet to settle on his college choice. That situation still isn't settled, but Wiggins left his suitors salivating even more after the McDonald's All-American Game.
Wiggins was outflanked by Gordon to some degree, however, he carried himself quite well. Wiggins led his squad with 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting and he also sunk seven of his eight free throws, so it is clear that he is a well-rounded and versatile player. The Huntington, W.V. star is very much like Gordon in terms of body type as he is 6'8" and 195 pounds, so he can afford to add some muscle as well.
There are several top programs pursuing Wiggins, according to 247Sports.com, and all of them would be ecstatic to land him. Among those schools are North Carolina, Kansas, Kentucky, Florida State and Ohio State. With Kentucky having already secured three of the top five recruits in the nation, adding Wiggins would put the Wildcats in prime position to return to prominence.
Gordon and Wiggins easily stood out as the stars of the night, so it is difficult to pull one guy from the rest of the pack, but forward Jabari Parker was particularly strong in the game. Parker is the No. 3 prospect in the country and has already committed to Duke, according to 247Sports.com. As the Blue Devils' only top-20 recruit thus far, he will be talked about a lot next season, and he proved on Wednesday that he is ready for the next step.
Parker struggled a bit from the field when compared to some of his counterparts as he only hit four of his 13 attempts from the field, but he still managed to scratch out 10 points for the West and contributed in other areas as well. Parker tied with Gordon by grabbing a game-high eight rebounds and he picked up two blows as well. Parker isn't quite as offensively inclined as Gordon and Wiggins, but he appears to be more advanced as a defender.
Duke will lose senior center Mason Plumlee next season, so somebody will need to step in and provide a defensive presence down low. Parker isn't the same type of player as Plumlee, but he should be able to replace some of what Plumlee brought to the table. Whatever the case, Mike Krzyzewski must be happy about what he has in Parker.
