Players to Watch
Andrew Wiggins, SF, East
This 6’8” superstar has narrowed his potential schools down to four, but still isn’t any closer to making a decision on where he will take his talents this coming season.
Whether he winds up starring at Florida State, Kansas, Kentucky or North Carolina will make no difference for fans that just can’t wait to see him in the NBA—as that is where many feel this up-and-comer belongs.
Wiggins possesses the size, shooting ability, scoring touch around the hoop, great handle, desire to rebound and non-stop motor required of an elite player at the next level.
He’s going to put it all on display in Chicago on Wednesday night, so tune in to catch this rising star.
Jabari Parker, SF, West
The Duke Blue Devils fans are going to be counting their lucky stars after they get done watching Parker at the McDonald’s All-American Game.
He’s been a starter at Simeon in Chicago for four state championships and won two Illinois Mr. Basketball awards during his decorated high school career. It’s time to take things to the next level, and he will show he’s capable of doing so in his hometown in this all-star contest.
At 6’8”, he is already the prototypical size for a small forward in the modern game, can score with ease from anywhere on the floor, plays completely unselfish (sometimes to a fault) and has an incredible basketball IQ.
While he wasn’t thought to be the best athlete, Parker showed up at the Powerade Jam Fest on Monday and placed third in the competition—proving to many doubters that he has the explosiveness required to become a top-tier swingman at Duke and in pros.
Aaron Gordon, F, West
Speaking of athletes, Gordon is one of the best in the class and has elected to take his talents to Arizona to continue developing them in 2013-14.
He’s a special kind of talent that displayed immense creativity and leaping ability in Monday’s dunk contest, but he’s going to really show what he can do on Wednesday evening.
Gordon is able to run the point forward, outjump anyone for rebounds in the post, blow past defenders with his quickness and get out in transition for easy buckets.
He needs to work on his jumper and outlet-passing abilities, but there’s no doubt in our minds that this kid is going to become something special during his time with the Wildcats.
