College Football Week 5: Which Top Recruiting Visits Could Lead to Commitments?
With the season going along nicely, many programs have begun the process of bringing in various recruits for visits. Recruits are allowed an unlimited amount of unofficial visits but only five official trips. These trips are very important, as they give the school a chance to get the recruit on campus to see how things are there.
The past few weeks have had some big games, and with big games in college football comes big recruiting visits. Let's take a look some top recruiting visits that could lead to commitments around Week 5.
Visits are crucial for programs wanting to get commitments, and these visits could lead to just that.
L.J. Moore and Notre Dame
1 of 6Moore visited Notre Dame this past weekend and the Irish really made a huge impression on him. The 6'1", 175 pound cornerback told Scout.com that he even thought about committing.
UCLA is the other serious school in the mix, but Moore used words like "incredible" and "passionate" in regards to his trip to South Bend. Stay tuned, as Moore is set to decide between the Irish and the Bruins.
Jalen Ramsey and Florida
2 of 6Ramsey is a 6'0", 190 pound cornerback from Tennessee. He is committed to USC, but Florida won't take no for an answer.
The Gators have a weapon on their side. Ramsey's teammate is a Florida commit, QB Max Staver. Surely, one has to imagine that Staver has put a good word in for the Gators, who got Ramsey to take a trip there this past weekend.
Could Ramsey spurn Los Angeles for Gainesville? Only time will tell.
Deon Hollins and UCLA
3 of 6Hollins gave a quick and early commitment to UCLA earlier this year, but other schools have still been on him. A very talented pass rusher, schools like Texas A&M, Notre Dame and Washington have been pressing, reports Rivals.com.
The Bruins reeled Hollins in for a visit to make sure everything is still smooth. I believe Hollins will still take some other visits, but if he indeed signs with the folks in Westwood, this past weekend likely will be viewed as a key factor.
Torii Hunter Jr. and Notre Dame (Committed)
4 of 6Notre Dame had Torii Hunter Jr. in for a visit this past weekend and got great news. In a meeting with Brian Kelly, Hunter told the Irish coach he was committing and ending his recruitment.
A 6'0", 172 pound speedy receiver from Texas, Hunter is pledge No. 21 for Kelly. The Texas native is the son of Angels outfielder Torii Hunter, and he is a great athlete like his dad.
Derrick Henry and Alabama
5 of 6It's well known by now that Henry is announcing his decision this Thursday and is down to Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia.
The Volunteers did well a few weeks ago when they hosted Henry in Knoxville for the Florida game. But Alabama still is the consensus favorite, and Henry was in Tuscaloosa this past weekend.
I would be shocked if Henry's visit to Alabama didn't seal the deal, and fully expect him to commit to the Crimson Tide this Thursday.
Justin Manning and Texas A&M
6 of 6247Sports.com reports that Manning will be visiting Texas A&M this weekend. A 6'2", 275 pound defensive tackle from Texas, Manning could be the most athletic player at his position in the country.
The Aggies would love to get a commitment from Manning this weekend, but they're willing to wait as long as it takes. Kevin Sumlin is building a talented recruiting class, and a pledge from Manning would only add to it.
College Station will be buzzing and Manning probably will be impressed. Keep an eye on this one.
