BCS Rankings: Top 10 Teams That Will Be Tested This Weekend

Ben ChodosSep 16, 2012

The BCS Rankings will not be released until the eight week of the college football season, but several teams ranking in the Top 10 of other polls will face a difficult challenge this coming weekend.

USC and Michigan State were ranked in the Top10 of the AP Top 25 Poll last week, but after losses to Stanford and Notre Dame, respectively, the Cardinal and the Clemson Tigers take their place for Week 4

Alabama’s dominance continued against Arkansas and they retained the top spot. LSU moved into second with Oregon, Florida State and Georgia completing the top five in that order. Oklahoma, South Carolina and West Virginia rank sixth through either.

Here are the teams whose ranking will be threatened this weekend, and may not be placed so highly when the first BCS rankings are released.

(10) Clemson at (4) Florida State

This is the marquee matchup for Week 4 and the only game featuring two top-10 teams.

This game appears to be the de facto ACC championship, as no team from the Coastal division appears to have any chance at beating either the Seminoles or the Tigers.

Florida State blew out Wake Forest last week and continued to show that it is a legitimate contender for a national championship this season. Clemson started the year with a victory over Auburn, then recorded two lopsided wins over Ball State and Furman.

With explosive athletes all over the field in this game, this matchup is the must-see event of the weekend in college football.

(15) Kansas State at (6) Oklahoma

The Big 12 will have a showdown on Saturday with Collin Klein and Kansas State taking on Landry Jones and Oklahoma in Norman.

Klein has completed 72.9 percent of his passes thus far for 609 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions. He has also rushed for 210 yards and four touchdowns.

Jones has completed 62.5 percent of his passes for 474 yards, four touchdowns and one interception.

Both prolific passers have Heisman Trophy aspirations, and they will make their case this weekend.

(22) Arizona vs. (3) Oregon

The Pac-12 has proved to be a surprisingly competitive conference this season.

Rich Rodriguez has turned the Wildcats into a competitive program, and Oregon will provide the 'Cats with their toughest test of the season.

Oregon has scored 162 points in its first three games, and the Ducks will need to keep rolling on offense, as the Wildcats have put up 139 points this season.

This will likely be an exciting game with a ridiculous amount of scoring. This is sure to be another excellent Pac-12 battle.
