5-Star DE Robert Nkemdiche Visiting Ole Miss Should Worry Clemson Tigers

Andrew KulhaJun 3, 2018

The Clemson Tigers should not be feeling too good about the fact that Robert Nkemdiche, their star recruit and No. 1 recruit in the nation (according to Rivals.com), will be visiting Ole Miss this weekend.

According to David Johnson of 247Sports.com, this is Nkemdiche's second trip in three weeks:

"

Robert Nkemdiche will be making his second trip to Ole Miss to watch the Rebels play for the second time in the first three weeks of the college football season. He also quietly took an unofficial to Ole Miss in July, along with Grayson (Ga.) High School teammate David Kamara, who is also committed to Clemson.

It's important to note that Robert's brother, Denzel Nkemdiche, is a redshirt freshman for Ole Miss—so he has plenty of reason to visit, other than for recruiting purposes—but one would be naive to believe that spending all that time around the Rebels' program won't have an impact on the nation's No. 1 recruit.

The Rebels are 2-0 and Nkemdiche will be watching them take on the No. 14 ranked (AP poll) Texas Longhorns this weekend. If Ole Miss plays well, or even wins, it could be a huge moment for Nkemdiche to take in.

The kicker here is that he won't be the only big-time prospect watching the game. According to Johnson's report, Nkemdiche will apparently have other Clemson commits with him at this game, and other uncommitted big names such as 4-star receiver Laquon Treadwell and 4-star tight end Beau Sandland will be there as well.

Could Ole Miss win over a whole group of elite players with a great showing against Texas? I wouldn't count that possibility out.

Finally, there is the ESPN The Magazine piece from Zach Schonbrun that quotes Nkemdiche's mom saying that she isn't happy with his commitment to Clemson. In the same article, Nkemdiche is quoted as saying "you can put that in bold" about playing his college ball at Clemson, but one has to wonder how his mother's comments will impact his thought process.

The Tigers already have a ton of factors playing against them when it comes to keeping Nkemdiche committed, and this weekend's visit to Ole Miss could be a huge turning point in the wrong direction.

While Clemson does have his verbal commit, nothing is solid until National Signing Day, and the pressure is firmly on the Tigers to keep him in the fold.

Knowing that he'll be at Ole Miss to watch the Rebels play a huge game against Texas with other top-notch recruits has to be a concern for the Tigers.
