No. 2 USC Trojans vs. Syracuse Orange

1 of 5

Date: September 8 (Saturday)

Time: 3:30 p.m.EST

Current line: USC by 26

The Story

The No. 2 ranked Trojans of Southern California travel across country to Metlife Stadium to square off against the Orange of Syracuse. Led by Matt Barkley, USC's star-studded offense had no problems in its 49-10 victory over Hawaii last week. Barkley threw for 372 yards and had four scores. With thundershowers, look for Penn State transfer Silas Redd to get more carries.

The Orange were handed a heartbreaking blow by Northwestern to begin the season. Quarterback Ryan Nassib, went 44-of-65 with 470 yards in the 41-42 loss. The Orange's defense was up to par as they only gave up 337 total yards to the Wildcats. The Orange currently are on a six-game losing streak.

Recent Trends

Both teams enter this game with an 0-1 record ATS. USC couldn't cover the -44 points against Hawaii, as the Orange couldn't cover their minus-2 spread. Last year, USC covered the spread against the Orange when they won 38-17 (USC -17). As a favorite of 21.5-31 points the Trojans are 1-1 in the past three years.

Pick

With Barkley playing in an NFL stadium, which could possibly be his next home (If the New York Jets have a horrendous season), I fully expect him to light up the Orange defense. The forecast is a bit scary for a quarterback, but I believe Barkley will be just fine. Nassib will have trouble producing drives against a solid Trojan defense. This is a low spread, especially for a star-studded Trojan team hungry for a national championship.

USC -26

USC 48 Syracuse 17

Western Kentucky Hilltoppers vs. No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide

2 of 5

Date: September 8 (Saturday)

Time: 3:39 p.m.EST

Current Line: 'Bama by 38.5

The Story

Coming off a monumental beatdown, the Crimson Tide look like a legitimate team to win the BCS after their decisive 41-14 victory against then No.8 Michigan in prime time. The Crimson Tide defense gave up a measly 269 yards against a rather talented Wolverine offense. On the other side of the ball, 'Bama rushed for 232 yards (ranked 27th in the FBS) and threw for 199 (62nd).

The Hilltoppers enter this game 1-0 after an impressive 49-10 victory against FCS school Austin Peay. The Hilltopper offense gathered 596 total yards on offense, which was WKU's most in seven years. Quarterback Kawaun Jones had a career day in the victory, throwing for 296 yards and four touchdown passes. One thing that hurts the Hilltoppers is that they are 0-8 against Top 25 teams.

Recent Trends

As an underdog of 31 or more, WKU is 2-0 ATS the last three years while the Tide have gone 3-2. In all games lined, the two teams are very close. WKU is 18-7 while 'Bama has gone 18-9. Alabama is 1-0 ATS against WKU.

Pick

If 'Bama can manhandle a Michigan team that was ranked in the Top 10, it should score a bundle against WKU.

Bama - 38.5

Alabama 63 Western Kentucky

Savannah State vs. No. 6 Florida State Seminoles

3 of 5

Date: September 8 (Saturday)

Time: 6:00 p.m. EST

Current Line: Florida State by -70.5

The Story

Last week, Oklahoma State beat Savannah State by a whopping 84-0 route. The Cowboys scored an astonishing 35 points in the first quarter. Coming into Tallahassee, the Tigers are going have to take another beatdown, this time against the sixth-ranked Seminoles. Now, Vegas is putting the spread at a historic 70.5. This is insane. The Seminoles will come into this game not looking to embarrass the Tigers.

CBSSports.com reports from Jimbo Fisher:

"

I have a problem, personally, saying OK we're going to win this game by a bunch of points...We don't want to ever embarrass anybody or anything of that nature.

"

There's no need for any recent trends because this game will go to the Seminoles easily.

Pick

Florida State will beat the crap out of the Tigers, but two reasons why the Seminoles won't cover:

1. Jimbo Fisher is a class act. He will not embarrass this program.

2. Weather may impact the game as there is a chance of thunderstorms during the second half.

Savannah State +70.5

No. 11 Michigan State Spartans vs. Central Michigan Chippewas

4 of 5

Date: September 8 (Saturday)

Time: 3:30 p.m. EST

Current Line: Spartans by 20.5

The Story

Michigan State comes into this game riding on a crucial victory against the Boise State Broncos. The Spartans Le'Veon Bell looks to destroy a weak Chippewa defense that gave up 188 rushing yards to SE Missouri State. The only problem with Michigan State is its quarterback issue. Andrew Maxwell looked horrible against Boise State's defense that had only two returning defensive starters. His play looked very inexperienced.

Central Michigan was losing in the second half against SE Missouri State before winning 38-27. The Chippewas are an after thought in the Mid-American Conference and look out of whack.

Recent Trends

Michigan State is 2-3 ATS versus Central Michigan. Last time these two met was last year when the Spartans won 45-7. When playing on Saturdays, the Spartans are 16-9 ATS in the past three years while Central Michigan is only 4-12.

Pick

Look for Andrew Maxwell to make strides during the game as Bell will continue stockpiling his statistics for the Heisman. Michigan State covers no problem.

Michigan State -20.5

Michigan State 38 Central Michigan 10

Game of the Week: No. 7 Georgia Bulldogs vs. Missouri Tigers

5 of 5

Date: September 8 (Saturday)

Time: 7:45 EST

Current Line: Georgia by 2.5

The Story

Missouri comes into this game filled with high expectations and excitement. Missouri opens up its new career in the SEC under the lights against one of the strongest teams in the SEC. Georgia couldn't cover a 37.5 spread against Buffalo, winning 45-23. Aaron Murray will be the X-factor in the SEC Highlight game. Murray had a mediocre performance against Buffalo as he threw for 258 yards and three touchdowns.

Missouri will look to exploit the Bulldogs rushing defense as the Bulldogs gave up 199 yards to Buffalo. Kendial Lawrence rushed for 121 yards and two touchdowns in Missouri's 62-10 victory against SE Louisiana.

Recent Trends

Georgia is 1-7 when the line is plus-3 to minus-3, but 1-0 as a road favorite of three points or less. Missouri is 2-2 when the line is plus-3 to minus-3 and 2-0 as a home underdog of three points or less.

Pick

I expect the atmosphere at Faurot Field to be incredible. Missouri's first SEC conference game will be an exciting close game. Coach Mark Richt is coaching the best Georgia team he has had in years. Georgia has too much riding on this season to not show up and win in the "Show Me State." Despite the terrible recent trends of the Bulldogs, I believe the Bulldogs will cover.

Georgia -2.5

Georgia 28 Missouri 24
