PSG's Early Season Struggles Has Ancelotti Seeing Red
PSG is finding the early part of the Ligue 1 season more difficult than most imagined. For the second straight game, PSG left with a draw against an opponent they were heavily favored against. Another poor performance from his squad has left Ancelotti frustrated, and it showed in the latter part of the match with AC Ajaccio.
Ancelotti was sent to the stands after kicking a bottle. Either his frustration level had boiled to the top, or he was showing his players the proper technique in completing a pass as his team is looking like a shell of itself.
It was a rough day for PSG all around as they made the trip to Corsica looking to secure the full three points from the match. PSG was already less then full strength with Zlatan Ibrahimovic missing out due to a foot injury, and both Silva and Motta not making the bench. The return to the lineup of Javier Pastore and Salvatore Sirigu appeared to be enough to overcome those unavailable, especially against Ajaccio.

PSG came out flat, and to be part of a practice walk through rather then a Ligue 1 match. Ajaccio controlled the game in most of the statistical categories including possession, shots, and corners earned.
The attacking trio of Lavezzi, Menez and Nene struggled to put pressure on the Ajaccio defense. In a common theme for PSG during the early stages of the domestic campaign, the players looked out of sink with each other. Outside of a beautiful Pastore pass to Nene who picked out Menez for a chance, the timing of passes and runs in the final third just was not there.
With the first half in the books, PSG looked to wake up like they did against Lorient the week before. PSG began to enjoy more of the possession during the beginning of the second half, but was still not controlling the game. In the 59th minute things went downhill for PSG as Ezequiel Lavezzi was shown a straight red for an awful challenge.
After Lavezzi's sending off, PSG worked hard to maintain the draw, as Ajaccio was careful not to extend themselves too much in looking for the win. Finishing with a 0-0 draw puts PSG at 2 points earned in their first two seasons. This is well below expectations, but not a cause for panic. Expect the return of Ibra and the addition of Silva to get the ship sailing in the right direction.
