College Football Recruiting 2013: Out-of-State Favorites for Top 10 Uncommitted
To have the option of playing big-time college football in front of your family and close friends is always appealing. That's why, more times than not, many recruits traditionally choose to stay close to home in recruiting.
However, recruits also must choose the best school for them, and that is not always the hometown or in-state school. For this read, the focus will be giving you the favorite out-of-state school for the top 10 uncommitted recruits in the country.
Remember, these schools may not be the overall favorite, but if the recruit chooses to go out of state, then this is where I believe they will land.
10. Priest Willis, S
1 of 10Willis is from Arizona, and both the Sun Devils and Wildcats are hot on his trail. He's a big 6'2", 190-pound DB who can play both CB and S effectively.
Willis could choose to stay and play in the desert, or leave to play somewhere else. Willis is wide open, so this is a tough call. Yet, I think either LSU and Michigan would be his top out-of-state choices.
9. DeMarcus Walker, DL
2 of 10From Florida, Walker is a very talented DL prospect at 6'4" and 280 pounds. The in-state schools are recruiting him hard, and I think it would be shocking to see him sign with Florida.
According to Scout.com, Walker will commit on Aug. 24. The out-of-state favorite is Alabama here, as it will likely be decided between the Crimson Tide and Gators when the time comes.
8. Derrick Henry, RB
3 of 10Henry also is a Florida native and one of the biggest RBs you'll ever see. He stands 6'3" and weighs 240 pounds, but has great speed, quickness and athleticism.
Henry was committed to Georgia, but things have changed. He has backed off that commitment, and in all likelihood, it's only a matter of time before he commits to Alabama.
7. Antonio Conner, S
4 of 10Conner is from Mississippi and plays for Ole Miss pipeline South Panola, so it would be a shock if he wound up anywhere else except Oxford.
Yet, should the 6'2", 200-pound safety head out of the Magnolia State, I think he could end up at Alabama or LSU. The Crimson Tide would love to add him to a secondary stable of Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix, Eddie Williams and Landon Collins.
LSU always has great DBs, and Conner would fit in well there, too.
6. Derrick Green, RB
5 of 10Hailing from Virginia, the 6'0", 225-pound Green is a tank with the football. He has excellent run strength and power, yet flashes a good amount of burst to and through holes.
As ESPN notes, Virginia Tech is among his main suitors, but if Green leaves Virginia, then it'll likely be for either Auburn or Michigan. A decision likely won't come until the winter.
5. Matthew Thomas, OLB
6 of 10Another Florida native, Thomas comes from the Miami area, and the feeling I get is that he's in a bit of an internal struggle. I believe his family may want him to stay home and go to Miami, but Thomas may want to get away.
As 247Sports reports, Florida State is also heavily involved in the mix, but this piece is about out-of-state favorites. With that said, I think Thomas has Alabama as his No. 1 non-Florida school.
4. Robert Foster, WR
7 of 10Foster has played his recruitment close to the vest for the most part.
Those favorites are now starting to come out, and Pitt and Alabama are looking good for Foster, as 247 Sports reported. From Pennsylvania, he could join Paul Chryst's squad or head down south to play in Tuscaloosa.
3. Montravius Adams, DT
8 of 10Georgia is where Adams makes his home, and the Bulldogs are still working hard to land the 6'3", 290-pound DT.
Yet, I think Mark Richt and his staff are behind in this race. Two of Adams' out-of-state favorites are Auburn and Clemson, according to ESPN.
2. Ricky Seals-Jones, WR/TE
9 of 10Texas once had Seals-Jones' commitment, yet the Lone Star State native decommitted from the Longhorns in the spring. At 6'5" and 230 pounds, he's a huge pass-catcher who likely will grow into a TE in college.
Texas easily could regain his commitment as could a few other schools—one being LSU, which is an out-of-state favorite for Seals-Jones, which Greg Powers of FOX Sports reports.
It'll be interesting see what he decides to do.
1. Laremy Tunsil, OT
10 of 10Tunsil is the top prospect in Florida this year. He is a 6'6", 295-pound LT prospect who has a lot of developing to do, but he has a high ceiling of potential.
Florida could be the favorite to land Tunsil because he grew up not too far from Gainesville. However, according to The Gainesville Sun, Alabama and Georgia are two excellent out-of-state options he is weighing carefully and seriously.
