Jeremy Lin: Why PG Is Poised to Become Perennial All-Star

Kyle NewportJun 7, 2018

Now that Linsanity has left the New York Knicks, many All-Star games are in Jeremy Lin's future with the Houston Rockets.

Playing in the Big Apple allowed Lin to gain international exposure, but he will now focus on becoming a star player. With the Knicks, he gained attention for everything he did.

The team's season turned around when he received more playing time. In the 25 games he started, he was a spectacular player but struggled with turnovers. Carmelo Anthony came back from an injury, and the team failed to keep up their hot play.

The Rockets were the only team to offer Lin a contract, so he signed with Houston. ESPN New York's Jared Zwerling reported Lin believed the Knicks would match any offer sheet he signed. When the time came, the Knicks went in a different direction and let the point guard leave.

ESPN covered the NBA All-Star Weekend last season and discussed the Lin situation. He was added to the Rising Stars game but not the All-Star game. He received all the publicity despite playing in only seven games, so many All-Star games will be in his future.

Now that he is out of New York, he will begin to become a complete player and be an All-Star in the future.

Teammates

The Rockets have a young roster, but Marc Stein of ESPN.com reports the team is interested in trading for either Dwight Howard or Andrew Bynum.

Kevin Martin is the only other proven player on the roster, so Lin will be able to put up huge numbers. The team brought in Omer Asik for length, but he is no Howard.

The team picked Jeremy Lamb, Royce White and Terrence Jones in the first round of this year's draft. Although Houston has young talent on its roster, they will rely heavily on Lin to carry the team.

If the team pulls off a trade for one of the two centers, Lin will be able to boost his assist numbers. He will see his scoring totals go up with his new team and he will have some huge games.

The lack of scoring around Lin will lead to him scoring and getting more attention. By the time the All-Star game comes around, Lin will be one of the highest scorers in the NBA.

Houston's Past

As Yao Ming continued to make All-Star teams at the end of his career, it became even more obvious that the game is a popularity contest.

Yao was a good player for the first part of his career, but injuries forced him to miss time and eventually retire.

Despite missing time from 2005 to 2009, he made the All-Star team every year. In 2011, he made the roster after only playing in five games.

He was the last Asian-American player to be a star in this league, but they are completely different players. However, his popularity will make him an All-Star for years to come even if he fails to live up to expectations.

Fans all around the world have the ability to vote for their favorite players, so Lin will receive millions of votes based on his great stretch last season. As he begins to play more, fans will see how good of a scorer he can be.

All-Star voting is based off more than just performance, and Linsanity has all but guaranteed he will be an All-Star this season.
