EPL: 10 Under-the-Radar Players Set to Shine in the Premier League
Every season in the Premier League, we see a collection of players excel that few would have expected to before the season began. This will surely again happen during the 2012-13 season. The major players will receive most of the coverage, so there will be some players that the majority of people won't be familiar with.
However, by the end of the season, everyone will know who they are, as speculation will increase on where they may play their football the following season.
Robert Snodgrass (Norwich City)
1 of 10Robert Snodgrass has been a long-term target of Norwich City. Finally, that pursuit came to an end, as the signing was completed last week from Leeds United. He is 24 years old, a Scottish international and can score as well as create goals with almost equal ease, as he proved last season in the championship.
Snodgrass is also a hard-working player who will do his bit for team and be willing to play in a number of different positions.
Ravel Morrison (West Ham United)
2 of 10It surprised many people when Manchester United allowed talented youngster Morrison to join West Ham. So far, he has made only one appearance for the Hammers, but they are now back in the Premier League and Morrison will want to prove he has top-flight quality.
Therefore, it could be a big season for the 19-year-old, but given the wealth of talent in the EPL, it is unlikely many people will be expecting him to shine.
Adam Federici (Reading)
3 of 10No doubt Norwich City and Swansea City fans would say that a quality goalkeeper played a significant part in securing their survival last season. I think it is fair to say that teams that lack a quality goalkeeper and striker tend to struggle.
So, it is lucky for Reading that they have a keeper who is of the highest quality. It remains to be seen if Federici will be their first choice next season, but if he is, then he will likely excel and outperform many of the more established Premier League keepers.
Nathaniel Clyne (Southampton)
4 of 10Clyne has been one of the leading players in the championship now and the left-back has been regularly linked with a move to the Premier League. I think Southampton have an unbelievable bargain to have signed the 21-year-old on a free transfer from Crystal Palace.
If he can nail down a regular place in the Southampton side in the Premier League, then I expect him to be pushing hard to get involved with the England team. He is a hugely talented player who needs to be playing in the top flight.
Michu (Swansea City)
5 of 10Swansea have secured the signing of the Spanish attacking midfielder Michu for a fee believed to be just £2 million from Spanish club Rayo.
He could prove to be one of the signings of the summer. He is an exciting goal scoring midfielder, contributing an impressive 15 league goals for Rayo last season.
Matthew Lowton (Aston Villa)
6 of 10If there is one thing Paul Lambert knows about, it is the talent that is available from the lower leagues. So, when he plucks a versatile 23-year-old defender from Sheffield United, you can bet your bottom dollar that he is a quality player.
Few people will be expecting Lowton to be a standout player in the Premier League next season, but it appears that Lambert has made another quality pick.
Fraser Fyvie (Wigan Athletic)
7 of 10Wigan never seem to have much money to spend, which makes their success of staying in the Premier League even more impressive. But Roberto Martinez has an amazing knack of finding players from somewhere that can do a job in the Premier League.
The latest of these could be 19-year-old Scot Fraser Fyvie, believed to have cost Wigan as little as £500,000 from Aberdeen. The midfielder could prove to be another bargain for Martinez. Fyvie won't be fancied by many, but could be another solid EPL player.
Alexander Kacaniklic (Fulham)
8 of 10Swedish midfielder/winger Kacaniklic has been at Fulham for a little while now, but has only just made the breakthrough to first-team football. His transition to the Fulham first team was assisted with a loan spell in the championship with Watford.
He will be hoping that, in the season ahead, he will be heavily involved in the Fulham team. He has some useful attacking skills and could be a Premier League star in the season ahead, but he isn't a player a lot of people will be familiar with.
Samba Diakite (QPR)
9 of 10Samba Diakite first arrived at QPR in the January transfer window on loan and he helped the club survive in the Premier League. The deal has now become permanent and Diakite will want to make a real impact on the top flight. But he won't be fancied to be one of the standout midfielders in the league.
Geoff Cameron (Stoke City)
10 of 10Stoke City have agreed in principle to a deal to bring Geoff Cameron to the Premier League. The player can be used in defense or midfield and Tony Pulis is confident he will be granted a work permit to complete the deal.
Cameron will hope to become another USA player who can have a successful career in the Premier League. He will be another player who won't be that familiar to those who don't follow the MLS.
