London 2012: Team USA Will Prove That They Are Most Dominant Olympic Squad Ever
This year's US Olympic men's basketball team is filled with talent and skill. Some say that they could be the greatest team ever.
Of course, the 1992 Dream Team was quite spectacular, but does this year's squad have what it takes to show that they are better than the 1992 team, and quite frankly, every other team in the Olympics?
In my opinion, I think they do. They have some of the greatest players in the world, a great coach and so many other key factors.
Read on to find out what they are.
Confidence
1 of 4Kobe Bryant recently stirred up quite the controversy for saying that this year's Olympic team could beat the 1992 Dream Team. Sure, he may be arrogant, but it's better to be confident than doubtful.
This year's team is filled with some of the most cocky athletes in sports (Kobe Bryant and LeBron James, to name a few). They don't think they are going to win, they know it.
Although overconfidence could turn out to be their Achilles heel, for the time being, it is a strength.
LeBron James
2 of 4After LeBron James took the team on his back and led the USA to victory over Brazil last week, there isn't a doubt in my mind that he will dominate during the Games. The 2012 NBA regular season and Finals MVP, James has played well thus far and should continue to excel.
A dominant power forward, he has a good shot at lead the national team in scoring and rebounding (because Tyson Chandler has been inept on the boards as of late). If he can continue to play well, don't expect the U.S. to fall short of gold.
Unity
3 of 4I never thought I'd see the day when LeBron James and Kevin Durant got along.
Man, I sound like a parent.
But seriously, this team is unified. They all are family on the court, no matter if they are bitter rivals in the NBA or best friends. This could be a huge factor in a deep run this year.
Coach K
4 of 4Mike Krzyzewski is one of the greatest coaches in the history of basketball. At the college level, he boasts a .788 winning percentage and 854 wins as a head coach. The current coach at Duke University, Coach K, has led his Blue Devils to four NCAA championships and 11 Final Fours.
He has plenty of Olympic experience; he coached the 2008 USA national team to a gold medal in Beijing and was an assistant coach for the 1992 "Dream Team."
