Liverpool FC: 5 Things the Average Reds Fans Wants to See
Liverpool fans are prone to extreme highs and lows in short periods of time. It's enough to drive you crazy. Trust me, I know.
Yet, no matter how many lows there are in a season—and there have been too many recently—the average Liverpool fan still wakes up on the opening day of the season filled with hope. It's a trait that will never disappear, and it highlights the integrity and genuineness of the Liverpool following.
It's not only hope that unites the Liverpool following, though.
There are a few things that the majority of us fans want to see next season, and here they are.
1. The Integration of Youth
1 of 5It's been said time and time again, and I am confident when writing that every single Reds fan out there wants to see the likes of Raheem Sterling, Suso, Coady and other youngsters at some point next season.
That doesn't mean to say we want Rodgers to start them against West Brom in August.
Substitute appearances. League and FA Cup run-outs.
That's what they need. That's how the Gerrard's and Fowlers started out. Rodgers undoubtedly knows this, and Liverpool fans are likely to get their wish next season.
2. The Improvement or Moving on of Average Players
2 of 5It's been written about so much over the past season that it almost sickens me to mention the following players again: Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing and Joe Cole, in particular, must improve from disappointing debut seasons at Anfield.
Carroll must continue to show an improvement and desire to play for Liverpool.
Though Liverpool fans are often the harshest critics, there remains a part of every fan that wants every Liverpool player to succeed. However, the ruthless streak must remain.
Should no improvement be made, the average Liverpool fan would be keen to see underachievers shown the door.
3. The Continuation of Strong Sides in the Cups
3 of 5Though the Cups should be used to integrate youth, they shouldn't be taken lightly. Integrate youth gradually; give them a strong platform to perform on before they become the platform themselves.
Effectively, keep the Suarez's and Bellamys, the Lucases and the Reinas, but integrate the Robinsons, Coadys and Susos too. Not by themselves, but maybe integrate one or two youth players into the lineup at once so the squad remains experienced.
This should guarantee Liverpool a place in the latter stages of the domestic cups, as well as providing youth players with experience, which was one of last season's highlights.
4. A Marquee Signing
4 of 5It was Suarez last time, Torres before him.
The Liverpool squad looks a tad ordinary at the moment. A breath of fresh air is needed. From all the rumours, there are more players we are "close on signing" than not. Those are rumours for you.
One player heavily linked consistently is Gaston Ramirez. He is young and definitely capable. The majority of Reds fans are hopeful of his signature this summer.
If not him, then someone else. Someone good.
5. A Fourth-Place Finish
5 of 5It's what everything else leads up to: the league position come May.
Baby steps. Don't aim for the title, or you will be disappointed. Go for the achievable, and be proud if you succeed.
The top four is a challenge, no doubt about it, but if Liverpool play a little better than last season and get that little bit of luck, it's achievable.
I believe in the Liverpool squad under Rodgers. With a little bit of magic and a new signing or two, we should be enjoying some success come May.
And so, we conclude.
Details may be disagreed on, and if this is the case, feel free to comment. Thanks for reading.
