Ranking the NFC East Receiving Corps: Slight Edge to Philly Again

Jun 7, 2018

Earlier this offseason, we ranked all four NFC East teams based on how strongly we felt about each squad's chances headed into 2012. Now, we're breaking things down on more of a micro scale. Here's how we view the receiving corps within the division.

1. Philadelphia Eagles: This was a very tough decision, because I'd argue that Dez Bryant has more upside than any receiver in the division and Miles Austin is probably a little better than Jeremy Maclin. Ultimately, though, the Eagles have better depth at the position. Dallas doesn't know who's going to be the No. 3 guy, but Philly's got Jason Avant, Riley Cooper and rookie Marvin McNutt. They have a very slight edge.

2. Dallas Cowboys: Like I said, I think Bryant's going to be a monster in the very near future (the best receiver in this division by the time 2012 is done). That said, he and Austin have had too many issues with consistency and injuries. Besides, who the hell is the No. 3 receiver?

3. New York Giants: They lost Mario Manningham and Hakeem Nicks is hurt, which is at least a small factor right now but could become a bigger one very soon. I seriously contemplated moving them into the bottom spot, but that Victor Cruz-Nicks combo is too damn good when they're both rolling. They're just ahead of Washington, but a full step back of Dallas.

4. Washington Redskins: The funny thing about the Redskins' receiving corps is that it's actually the deepest in the division. If Pierre Garcon can emerge, Santana Moss can get back on track, Josh Morgan can live up to expectations and Leonard Hankerson can be the player many expect him to become, this will be the best group in the division. But for now, that's too many "ifs."

Redskins fans shouldn't feel badly here because each team in the division has a very good starting duo, and Washington actually has more proven and/or exciting options beyond the starting lineup than anyone else. No wonder the quarterbacks in the NFC East are so good.
