NBA Social Media Awards: Blake Griffin Should Be Honored for His Awesomeness

Brian MaziqueJun 3, 2018

Blake Griffin has some obvious holes in his game, but on sheer excitement, he has few equals in the NBA. That is one aspect of tonight's NBA Social Awards: wow plays, "my oh my" dunks, ridiculous passes and great individual performances.

Griffin has consistently delivered the most eye-popping, Twitter igniting plays this season. Of the six primary awards scheduled to be given out at 9PM ET on NBA TV, Griffin is nominated in two categories.

You can vote officially for the winners here.

In the category entitled: Social Slam, Griffin has two entries. This category recognizes the five dunks that caused the biggest social media frenzy this season. Blake's opposition is this sick alley-oop from Gerald Green.

LeBron James' John Lucas III Leap and Paul George's overrated windmill. I mean think about it, didn't Gerald Green do the slam off a lob pass?

Of course Blake's soul consuming "slam" over Kendrick Perkins is there. For the millionth time, here it is:

The other vicious Blake throw down is this two-hand tip slam over a hapless Pau Gasol.

I'd have to give the edge to Blake for his embarrassment of Perkins. Look at it this way, this is the NBA Social Media Awards show, and this dunk may have lead to Perkins canceling his Twitter account.

How can we ignore that connection?

The other major category Griffin is nominated for is the "Got Game" award. Which Griffin highlight is tabbed for this one? You guessed it, more Perkins abuse.

Griffin's competition in this category is as follows:

Danilo Gallinari's sick no-look pass to Kenneth Faried is one nominee:.

LeBron's Lucas Leap is recognized again and this Kevin Durant buzzer-beater:

Finally Rudy Fernandez over-the-shoulder no look to Faried:

Although I loved Gallinari's pass, I still have to go with Blake. Can you honestly say any of the plays, not involving Griffin, had as big of an impact on you the first time you saw them?

The NBA Finals belong to LeBron James and Kevin Durant, but Griffin is the star of this show.
