England vs. Ukraine: Date, Start Time, Live Stream, TV Info and Preview

Scott CarasikJun 2, 2018

England faces Ukraine in the Euro 2012 tournament on Tuesday, June 19. The English look to have the upper hand, but the match should be close and Ukraine could come away with the victory.

While the teams look like they could be evenly matched when looking at their Euro 2012 records, England is rated sixth in the Soccer Power Index while Ukraine is rated 23rd. However, anything can happen in the sports world and the matchup should be interesting to watch on Tuesday.

Ukraine's Experience in Group D

Vs. Sweden: Won 2-1

Vs. France: Loss 2-0

Sweden took an early lead over Ukraine and then Andriy Shevchenko scored on two headers to give Ukraine the lead. Ukraine then held on and won the game, giving the home crowd a nice surprise. By taking the shocking win versus Sweden, Ukraine lined themselves up to possibly take a spot in the Euro 2012 bracket.

The France matchup was delayed by lightning at first and there was a question as to whether it would be delayed, but the match still went on. It was a close game throughout the first half, but then France came out hard and scored two goals within a four-minute span to take the lead. No more goals were scored, and the French defense held up to seal it.

England's Experience in Group D

Vs. France: Tied 1-1

Vs. Sweden: Won 3-2

England and France have always had a bitter rivalry. England took an early lead against the French, scoring a goal just 11 minutes into the game. However, the French scored just nine minutes later at the 20-minute mark. After the two goals, it turned into a pure defensive standoff from both teams with the lack of a goal by either team for the rest of the game.

England had a lot of trouble versus Sweden. They were down 2-1 in the 59th minute of the match and had to come back in order to get the win and keep themselves up in competition for a spot in the bracket. They did come back, and with the win and the tie, the English are currently tied for the lead in the group with the French team.

History Between the Two Countries

This is the first time the Ukrainian team has qualified for the Euro 2012 tournament and is hosting the tournament with Poland. Ukraine and England have yet to play each other in match play and this should create an interesting matchup. There also is a complete lack of familiarity between the squads as none of the players from either squad play together on the same team in club play.

Predictions

England could advance with a tie against the Ukrainians; however, Ukraine would need to win in order to advance due to an earlier loss to the French team that is now 1-0-1 in group play and would hold the head-to-head edge over Ukraine.

England should win this one handily and guarantee themselves a spot in the Euro 2012 bracket. Ukraine will have to bring some of the same magic that helped them surprise Sweden in the first round of the Bracket in order to advance.
