College Football Recruiting 2013: 10 4-Star Prospects That May End with 5-Stars
The star system really doesn't matter too much if you really watch tape and evaluate prospects. I say this because you come up with your own opinion, your own rankings and you'll see that they differ from the many recruiting publications out there.
However, it still is a vastly entertaining aspect of recruiting that really gets the fan's juices going. Having 5-stars is the highest honor in the system, and surely recruits do take notice of how many stars are attached to their name.
For this list, I'm going to give you 10 4-star prospects that could very well end up with 5-stars before this recruiting cycle is over.
10. Jake Raulerson, OT
1 of 10Raulerson is a player that I want on my team. He's a 6'5", 250-pound football playing baller from Texas that can play OT, DE, LB and more.
Committed to Texas, Raulerson is an athletic big man that can really move his feet, play with quickness and is tough and nasty on the field.
With a good senior year and a performance at a big time all-star game or two, he could net an extra star before it's over.
9. Ryan Green, RB
2 of 10Green is from Florida and is one of the top offensive playmakers in the state this year. I've compared him to Keith Marshall of last year's class.
At 5'11", 185 pounds, Green is lightning fast and can make a bee line to the end zone at anytime on the field.
He's extremely explosive and if he tops his 1,069 yard, 14 touchdown performance of last year, combined with his great showings at workouts this spring, look for him to warrant 5-star status.
8. Eli Woodard, CB
3 of 10A New Jersey native, Woodard is a prime time CB prospect with a great size and athleticism. He stands 6'0", 185 pounds and has great cover skills.
Woodard excels in press-man, off-man and zone coverage, rarely being out of position, rarely taking false steps and rarely unattached from his man.
Committed to Ohio State, look for him to improve this season and make a move for 5-star status.
7. O.J. Howard, TE
4 of 10Probably the main reason Howard hasn't gotten an extra star is because he may be a bit raw as a TE prospect.
However, I expect the 6'5", 225-pound athletic specimen to have a big senior season and get that last star attached to his name.
Howard, committed to Alabama, is a tall and long athlete with great speed, agility, quickness, leaping ability and natural ball playing skills.
6. Max Redfield, FS
5 of 10Redfield is showing this spring that his ball skills are so good that playing WR in college is not completely out of the question.
A 6'2", 200-pounder from Southern California, Redfield is an excellent athlete that could be the best pure FS prospect in the country.
He's shown outstanding ball skills, range, speed, quickness in transition and play-making ability this spring. I expect that to translate to a huge senior year and 5-star consideration.
5. Altee Tenpenny, RB
6 of 10Tenpenny went to SPARQ National Championship as a junior last year and nearly won the thing. He suffered a leg injury early in his junior year and that has pushed him down boards.
Look for the 6'0", 205-pound RB to show off at The Opening this year and to have a huge senior season in Arkansas while showing off his great speed and solid run strength.
Committed to Alabama, Tenpenny could be a 5-star RB before we're done in 2013.
4. Tim Williams, DE
7 of 10Williams is a 6'3", 230-pound DE prospect from Louisiana who has an excellent surge off the line.
He can really get after the passer and squeeze the pocket from the edges, blast past a blocker and hawk a QB down with ease.
I think Williams' rise up the board this spring has grown his confidence and could lead into an outstanding senior season. Tack that on with a great postseason circuit showing and we may have a 5-star prospect here.
3. Cooper Bateman, QB
8 of 10Bateman has a chance to show off his marvelous arm strength at Elite 11 QB camp next month.
A great showing there will really help his cause for 5-stars, as that is the QB camp to spring a signal caller's growing legend.
At 6'3", 205 pounds and committed to Alabama, Bateman has a cannon with improving footwork, good accuracy and has been very productive playing ball in Utah.
He could be a 5-star prospect by the time he signs his Alabama letter of intent.
2. Tahaan Goodman, S
9 of 10Goodman has shot up the boards fiercely this spring with excellent showings at various camps, 7-on-7 games and more. He could be on his way to being labeled a 5-star prospect.
He's a 6'2", 190-pound safety prospect from Southern California with all the tools to be a college standout. Goodman has great play speed, instincts, attacks against the run and has range defending the pass.
He'll also light up a target with a thump, too.
1. Vonn Bell, DB
10 of 10I'm not so sure as to why Bell isn't a 5-star prospect already. His film is very good and he has excellent versatility.
Ball skills and solid hitting ability make up the 6'1", 190-pound Tennessee native's game. Bell has a plant and drive that looks like a cornerback's and some thump of a safety.
He can jump a passing lane with speed, snatch the ball in flight and a make a play to flip the field for his team.
