Twitter, Message Board Reaction to 5-Star RB Decommitting from Georgia

Randy ChambersJun 13, 2012

Who said there isn't big college football news that takes place during the offseason? Nowadays in the sports world, there is no offseason.

The Georgia Bulldogs did have a 5-star running back on the roster for the third year in a row in Derrick Henry. He is considered one of the top backs of the 2013 class and was somebody who could help contribute right away in the 2013 season. He was going to be a part of a talented backfield that included Isaiah Crowell and 2012 commitment, Keith Marshall.

Now, nobody is sure what the future holds for the talented runner, as he has decided to decommit from Georgia and keep his options open moving forward.

"I’m still considering Georgia and I have nothing but great things to say about their program, but I want to be honest with everyone in the fact that I am going to go over all my options and do what is best for me and my athletic and academic career." Henry said. (Via Scout.com)

"

Derrick Henry is a big back at 6'3", 241 pounds and has the ability to play numerous positions, although he wants to play the running back position. He has terrific field vision and despite his massive frame, he has solid speed and is capable of breaking off big runs.

While Georgia is still not out of the picture, Henry is still considering schools such as Notre Dame, USC, Florida, Alabama and Florida State, among others.

SON OF A...! RT @ajcsportseditor: Five-star running back de-commits from UGA. bit.ly/MNKalZ

— Katy (@katyroland) June 13, 2012"

We all know what she meant; could Henry possibly become the next top running back to join Alabama? Henry just came back from his visit with Nick Saban and company and now has decommitted from Georgia.

Coincidence, or is he really liking the idea of teaming up with another 5-star player in T.J. Yeldon?

"

Now would be a great time to announce Herschel Walker as #UGA's new recruiting coordinator, and have him knock on Derrick Henry's door.

— Dawg Day Afternoon (@Michael__Booker) June 13, 2012"

Again, it is important to know that Georgia is still in the running for Henry until he says otherwise. While it may not look good for the Bulldogs at moment, adding a legend such as Herschel Walker to the staff may not be a bad idea right about now. Would it help lure Henry back, well, that is a whole different question.

While this loss may hurt Georgia's ranking according to top recruiting websites, there are still 19 other commitments for the 2013 class. This includes 4-star quarterback Brice Ramsey, offensive lineman Brandon Kublanow and safety Tray Matthews. Georgia may be down in the dumps right now, but there are many things to be happy about.

"

Derrick Henry decommits from UGA and is goin to BAMA. This is why I hate Nick Saban.

— Drew Robbins (@D__Robb47) June 13, 2012"

If Henry does in fact pick the Tide, it would be Alabama's 18th early commitment from the 2013 class. It would also add to a loaded backfield that includes Eddie Lacy, Jalston Fowler, Demetrius Hart and true-freshman and former 5-star recruit T.J. Yeldon. You can see why non-Alabama fans would be upset, and why there is no love lost for Tide head coach Nick Saban.

"

Come on to Bama Mr. Derrick Henry. We can use you to win another BCS Title!

— Devan Orange (@DevanOrange) June 13, 2012"

Then you can see the other side of things, as Alabama fans can feel another national championship within their grasps. Sure, it would take much more than a talented running back to return to the national championship game, but for a team that's already loaded with talent on both sides of the ball, it sure wouldn't hurt. And the rich keep on getting richer.

"

Would love to wake up tomorrow and Derrick Henry committ to Alabama rtr

— Sean Jackson (@s14jack) June 13, 2012"

You and the rest of the Crimson Tide, although the rest of the SEC sure wouldn't.
