10 Prospective Premier League Transfer Rumours We Wish Would Go Away

James KentJun 5, 2018

So, here we are in the offseason. The summer is often referred to as the silly season; in football terms, that means lot of transfer rumours.

Of course, most of this speculation will come to nothing. But as fans, we always hold out hope that our club will get the deal done. Rumours can get pretty serious, and in some cases players, can be linked season after season.

In this list there will be players that have been linked for some time, others that will be new for this summer but we really just want it sorted out one way or the other.

Luka Modric

1 of 10

Last summer, it seemed that Modric was constantly being linked with a move away from White Hart Lane. However, Tottenham Hotspur decided to hang onto their prize midfield talent.

There is speculation that Manchester United are now trying to capture the player. Some reports suggest (via Goal.com) the deal could be as low as £22million. We will see if this gets resolved this summer, but Spurs may feel pressured to sell after failing to qualify for Champions League football next season.

Robin Van Persie

2 of 10

Robin van Persie is, arguably, the best striker in the Premier League, and that means that he is constantly linked with a move away from Arsenal. The striker is now 28-years-old and has 12 months to run on his current Arsenal contract.

It has been suggested (via Metro) that he could earn more money elsewhere and may leave Arsenal if this is his main motivation. He may also feel that he would have a better chance of challenging for silverware elsewhere.

Wesley Sneijder

3 of 10

Dutch star Wesley Sneijder is constantly linked with a move to the Premier League. It has long been thought that Manchester United would be the most likely destination for attacking midfield player.

But reports at the end of last month suggest (via Metro) that he may move to rival Manchester City instead.

Grant Holt

4 of 10

The speculation surrounding Grant Holt's possible departure from Carrow Road has not been going on for a huge amount of time, but there was talk of a bid from Rangers in the January transfer window and current speculation (via Daily Mail) that West Ham are after him.

Norwich City fans will want this talk to go away and for Holt to commit to at least another 12 months, otherwise there will always be the worry of a late departure in August.

Karim Benzema

5 of 10

France's forward Karim Benzema has been constantly linked (via Metro) with a move to the Premier League, but it appears the player feels settled with Real Madrid and has ruled out a move to Manchester United.

The striker has also been constantly linked with a move to Arsenal and claims that United have being trying to sign him for the last four years. It will be interested to see if these words are enough for summer speculation to die out.

Leighton Baines

6 of 10

England full-back Leighton Baines is constantly linked with a move away from Everton. It appears that Manchester United are attempting to buy a whole new squad, and they may be closing in on a deal. However, Everton manager David Moyes has hinted (via Mirror) that he may quit if the club agrees to sell the star.

Jordan Rhodes

7 of 10

Jordan Rhodes has had a sensational season and has been constantly linked with a move to the Premier League. It's hard to imagine that the player will not be playing Premier League football next season as an expected (via Daily Mail) fee of £8million may be enough to put some clubs off. Huddersfield Town, though, will want the situation resolved as quickly as possible.

Marouane Fellaini

8 of 10

Marouane Fellaini has been linked with a move away from Everton for quite a long time now. It appears (via Express) that this summer might be the time that it finally happens as he is in search of playing European football. He feels that Everton need to spend to progress.

Andrey Arshavin

9 of 10

The creative Russian player is still technically an Arsenal player, but it looks highly unlikely that he will remain in the Premier League. A move back to Russia looks the most likely option, but Arsenal will want to get the situation resolved as quickly as possible.

Ben Foster

10 of 10

The Birmingham City goalkeeper has just had an impressive season on loan at West Brom in the Premier League. It is expected that he will be back playing top-flight football again next season, so it's just a matter of which club he will sign for. It's likely (via Mirror) that West Brom will be the favourites to sign him.
